Volume One, Chapter 5: I Can No Longer Bear Children!
Page 1/3
Ye Wu knew clearly that once she spoke the truth, there would be no turning back between her and Zhou Jinghuai.
Yet, when the disappointment in one’s heart reaches its peak, one becomes reckless, willing to let go of everything.
She looked up at the husband she once deeply loved, cruelly tearing open her own wound and exposing it entirely before Zhou Jinghuai. Her heart ached so painfully it nearly went numb as she spoke, “Zhou Jinghuai, you don’t need to show any more consideration. I no longer want the honorary position of Mrs. Zhou—or even the title—because I cannot...”
She failed to finish the word ‘bear children’.
Zhou Jinghuai’s phone rang.
He fixed his gaze on Ye Wu’s face before answering. On the other end was Secretary Lin’s anxious voice: “Young Master Jing, Miss Bai’s condition is critical. Please come quickly.”
“I understand.”
Hanging up, Zhou Jinghuai said to Ye Wu, “We’ll talk later.” Without another word, he walked toward the black Rolls-Royce, prepared to leave.
Ye Wu remained standing there. A gust of night wind swept over her, chilling her to the bone.
She first whispered his name, then raised her voice until it was nearly a wail born from a lifetime of sorrow: “Zhou Jinghuai, won’t you give me even one minute? After four years of marriage, am I not worth hearing this one sentence?”
Zhou Jinghuai gripped the car door handle, his voice cold and stern: “We’ll discuss it after Bai Qianqian passes the critical period.”
With a press of the accelerator, the car sped away, leaving nothing but dust.
...
The night was as cold as water but could not compare to the storm raging in Ye Wu’s heart.
She quietly stared in the direction her husband had left and murmured the sentence in full: “Zhou Jinghuai, I cannot have children.”
The night wind howled fiercely as she repeated once more—
“Zhou Jinghuai, I cannot have children!”
...
Each repetition was a cruel lash against her once deep love for Zhou Jinghuai, a merciless mockery of her all-or-nothing gamble.
She had given her youth, given her all, but to Zhou Jinghuai, she was worth nothing.
Her sorrow and pain had never concerned him.
Suddenly, Ye Wu wanted to let go, to break free from the shackles of being Mrs. Zhou for four years. After tonight, she would no longer be Zhou Jinghuai’s wife. She would be Ye Wu again, living only for herself.
She lowered her head and looked down at the ridiculous suit she wore.
In the business world, Zhou Jinghuai needed her in this attire. But outside of it, he found it dull and uninteresting. Now even she felt trapped by these bindings; how laughable to think she could win a man’s love by conforming.
It was utterly ridiculous!

When Annie arrived,
Ye Wu had taken off her coat, her silk blouse unbuttoned at two buttons revealing a sliver of pale skin. Her long black hair tumbled softly over her slender back, exuding an indescribable pure allure.
She leaned against the car, her long fair legs stretched out.
She turned her head toward Annie and softly asked, “Do you have a cigarette? I want to smoke one.”
Annie’s nose tingled with emotion.
She had been Ye Wu’s personal secretary for four years and knew better than anyone how deeply Ye Wu loved Zhou Jinghuai, and how utterly broken she was now. Annie didn’t have a cigarette but managed to find a pack.
Ye Wu had never smoked before—
The smoke choked her and brought tears to her eyes.
Through the harsh smoke, she laughed with tears, letting her love for Zhou Jinghuai dissolve into shards of hatred piercing her bones and heart...
...
Ye Wu indulged for the first time.
The dim lighting, the intoxicating atmosphere—it all felt so decadent.
Drunk to the point of staggering, Ye Wu no longer cared about Zhou Jinghuai’s opinions or the Zhou family’s rules...
She leaned on the table and lightly tapped her glass, signaling the bartender for another drink.
Just as the bartender was about to comply, a slender finger pressed down on the glass, and a figure with sharp features sat beside her.
It was Gu Jiuci, from Mo Ci Law Firm.
The man’s dark eyes carried a trace of contemplation as he studied Ye Wu: she was even more uninhibited and alluring than before. Her frail body reclined softly, the blouse’s loosened buttons revealing a glimpse of tender curves.
Ye Wu’s skin was pale and smooth...
Gu Jiuci’s gaze deepened. After a moment, he took off his coat and gently draped it over Ye Wu’s shoulders...
The woman was startled and looked up at him.
Through the flickering light, she was drawn into his dark eyes, as if falling into an abyss.
Gu Jiuci’s tone was distant: “You’ve had too much. I’ll take you home.”
Ye Wu leaned against the bar, staring intently at Gu Jiuci. He noticed a captivating charm in the inner corners of her eyes, softened by her usually reserved attire.
Her voice wavered, lacking its usual composure: “Who are you? Why should I go with you?”
There was no reasoning with a drunken woman.
Gu Jiuci pulled out his wallet, placed a stack of cash on the bar, then bent down and scooped Ye Wu into his arms. She instinctively struggled, but Gu Jiuci pressed her legs firmly, his tone stern as if addressing a criminal: “If you don’t want to be on the headlines tomorrow, come with me now.”

Ye Wu was trapped in the man’s arms.
Her cheek rested against Gu Jiuci’s neck, his skin burning hot. Uncomfortable, she shifted her face to his shoulder. Separated by a layer of shirt, she felt somewhat more at ease but still protested, “Gu Jiuci, put me down.”
The parking lot was awash with neon lights, stars twinkling faintly above.
Gu Jiuci looked down at the woman in his arms, a strange light flickering in his eyes: Ye Wu knew it was him.
But soon he suppressed the unusual feeling. He hadn’t forgotten Ye Wu was Zhou Jinghuai’s wife—not a woman he could casually have an affair with.
Five minutes later, Gu Jiuci placed her gently into the car.
The woman leaned back against the leather seat, eyes closed softly, her face pale. As she slept, she looked utterly fragile...
Gu Jiuci glanced at her twice before dialing Zhou Jinghuai’s number.
Both of Zhou Jinghuai’s phones were switched off.
Gu Jiuci guessed it had something to do with Bai Qianqian; otherwise, Ye Wu wouldn’t have gotten so drunk. He was about to call Secretary Lin’s phone—
Ye Wu woke up.
She reached out and slapped Gu Jiuci’s phone away.
“I don’t want to go home.”
Her head tilted slightly back, her chest rising and falling intensely. The thin fabric of her blouse swayed gently with her movements, mingling with her natural scent—a quietly seductive fragrance.
Gu Jiuci’s Adam’s apple moved as he swallowed.
He turned his face away to look out at the fading night, then glanced back at the woman beside him. She seemed to have fallen asleep again.
Gu Jiuci watched silently for a moment, then opened the car door and stepped out.
The night was deep and tranquil...
The tall man leaned against the hood of the Land Rover, his all-black attire blending into the darkness. He took out a cigarette, placed it between his lips, lowered his head, cupped the lighter’s flame, and lit it.
Pale blue smoke rose and was quickly carried away by the night breeze, softening his sharp features.
After smoking half a cigarette, he turned to look at the woman inside the car.
Dressed in moonlight white, her features were as picturesque as a painting, the corners of her eyes shimmering with a faint subtle allure...
