Chapter 10: Come Quickly, and Join Me in the Sweet Slumber~
“Boom!”
A strong wind swept Mo Wen’s hair back. He stared blankly ahead at a gigantic silver metallic sphere nearly a meter in diameter.
“Click, click, click…”
Under his gaze, intricate, orderly lines began to appear on the surface of the silver sphere. Then, accompanied by a thick white mist, a door-like structure slowly opened.
“What is this?!”
Mo Wen was stunned. Such an intense sense of science fiction. A space capsule? Or a UFO? Had he walked onto the wrong set? And besides…
“With such a commotion, wouldn’t everyone have seen it? Then what was the point of my earlier cover-up?”
He complained inwardly, yet there was no panic in his eyes. After all, he had strong backing nearby; even if something truly unexpected happened, the big guns would handle it.
“Tap, tap…”
Footsteps echoed from inside the silver sphere. Soon, a figure appeared before Mo Wen’s eyes.
She was a girl no taller than 1.4 meters, wearing a white lab coat. Her brown curls bounced as she walked, pushing up the thick black-rimmed glasses on her nose. Despite her mature attire, her youthful physique made the look somewhat incongruous.
The loose lab coat swayed with her steps, revealing glimpses of her fair, slender thighs.
Approaching Freyria, she bowed slightly and said in a flat tone, “Sorry, Your Highness, we are late. For safety reasons, I arrived earlier; the others are still on their way.”
“It’s alright. You’ve come just in time,” Freyria replied, shaking her head gently. Then she raised her hand and pointed at Mo Wen beside her. “This is the new recruit I just hired. You’ll be responsible for training him.”
“Also, the experiment we started earlier can now continue. He is the missing key you needed.”
Leaving those words behind, Freyria turned and boarded the ship without another glance at Mo Wen.
Experiment? Missing key?
Wait, what exactly are you talking about?!
Mo Wen blinked in shock, then looked down at the girl standing before him, barely reaching his chest. After a moment’s thought, a friendly smile crept onto his face. “Hello, forw—”
Before he could say “senior,” the world blurred, and his body felt light. The fierce wind made it impossible to open his eyes, and his cheek was buffeted like waves rolling over it.
Faintly, he glimpsed a spreading pale white ring.
A sonic boom?
No, no, that’s wrong! Not that extreme, right?!
Mo Wen’s heart roared.
Soon, his feet found solid ground again. Opening his eyes, he saw the cabin environment gradually transforming.
A layer of silvery-white metallic membrane spread outward from beneath the girl’s feet. Within moments—as brief as a few breaths—the wooden-paneled cabin had transformed into a high-tech metal chamber, complete with all sorts of strange instruments.
Releasing the arm she had gripped, the girl in the lab coat walked over to a rotating chair nearby and sat down. Folding her hands, she said expressionlessly:
“I am Your Highness’s accompanying physician, Julia, and also the team leader for the foreseeable future.”
“But I currently doubt your ability to fulfill the role of ‘medic’.”
“Let’s start with your background.”
“Mo Wen Ryland, eldest son of Count Ryland, Pillar of the Empire.”
“You studied at the Imperial Royal Knight Academy, excelling academically. By sophomore year, you had already been promoted to Silver Rank as a rare God-bestowed knight, graduating early to join the battlefield between the Augustus Empire and the northern demonic Most Empire.”
“On the battlefield, you repeatedly distinguished yourself and should have had a bright future. With the joint support of Count Ryland and Marquis Narus, you became the empire’s youngest officer during the five-hundredth anniversary celebration.”
“But…”
“Your third younger brother accused you on the eve of the celebration of secretly trading with the demon princess of the Most Empire.”
“In a critical battle, your squad was supposed to capture the demon princess alive. Instead, all your squad members perished, yet you emerged completely unharmed, and the demon princess escaped unscathed.”
“There were even photos provided of secret meetings between you and the demon princess.”
“The revelation caused an uproar in the imperial high command. With your father’s help, you barely escaped, but lost your noble status and were banished from the imperial capital to the remote Fallen Star Port in the empire’s south.”
“At the same time, the Archbishop of the Balance Church personally stripped you of the God-bestowed spirit within you. You went from the empire’s brightest rising star to less than an ordinary person—a crippled man, theoretically incapable of ever stepping into the supernatural realm again.”
“Meanwhile, your third brother inherited your God-bestowed spirit and became the new God-bestowed knight of the Balance Church. He is now the empire’s most dazzling rising star.”
“Have I made any mistakes in what I’ve said?”
“Mo Wen Ryland.”
Mo Wen fell silent.
The other party’s investigation was so thorough that denying his identity would be self-deception. When he transmigrated, he was already in Fallen Star Port, and the original body’s remaining memories did contain such details.
The truth, however, was different, but…
Mo Wen shook his head. “That’s all in the past. Now, I just want to live well.”
At the same time, he discreetly cast a “scouting spell” towards Julia.
Immediately, a display appeared before his eyes.
[Physician Julia: Legendary Professional, ???]
Seeing the question marks, Mo Wen sighed silently but wasn’t too surprised.
Julia’s earlier feat of instantly breaking the sonic barrier already proved her terrifying strength.
“I, a Black Iron rank, can access detailed information on a Golden rank Black Beast captain, yet cannot probe Julia’s details. This means Legendary rank is above Golden. But is Legendary the rank above Golden, or are there other ranks in between?”
Mo Wen pondered.
Julia adjusted her glasses and spoke again, coldly:
“Your past no longer matters the moment you join the ‘Candlekeepers.’”
“Having confirmed your identity, we will proceed to the next step.”
“You heard what Her Highness said earlier.”
“I have an experiment that requires your assistance.”
“Wait!” Mo Wen quickly interrupted. “Miss Julia—no, Captain—I need to know, what kind of experiment are we talking about?”
Julia, who had been expressionless until now, suddenly brightened as if a still pond had ripples: “Have you ever dreamed?”
“Yes,” Mo Wen answered honestly, puzzled by her meaning.
“Everyone’s dreams are but ripples in the river of dreams—a river invisible and intangible that theoretically connects every realm where living beings have ever existed.”
“In other words, if one could make false dreams real, one could travel to any place they wish within a single dream.”
“For instance, the ‘Puppet Kingdom—the Principality of Mein’ that cursed you with the Puppet Curse.”
“The root of the Puppet Curse lies within the Principality of Mein. To solve it completely, one must delve deeply and find its source.”
“Exploring the forbidden object’s location in the form of a dream greatly reduces risk. Even if you die in the dream, in reality you would only suffer mental exhaustion for a few days.”
“Undoubtedly, the most perfect exploration method!”
Excited, Julia suddenly stood and patted the spherical metal capsule behind her, about the size of several people hugging. Instantly, the door opened, revealing a strange pale blue liquid shimmering with star-like lights.
“Using ‘that thing,’ we can already make false dreams real. Only one small obstacle remains before success.”
She looked at Mo Wen: “That is a carrier capable of withstanding the ‘false dream made real’ experiment.”
“The higher the rank, the greater the uncontrollable risk, so the Black Iron rank—just entering the supernatural—is most suitable.”
“Mo Wen Ryland, you bear the curse from the forbidden object—the Puppet Kingdom—and have an extremely strong connection to it. At the same time, you possess the cursed doll as an ‘anchor.’ More importantly, Her Highness believes you are very fitting.”
“I don’t know why she has such confidence in you, but since she said it, I’m willing to trust her.”
“If even you fail, then I can’t imagine who else could succeed.”
Mo Wen swallowed nervously and cautiously asked, “Captain, what were the consequences for the previous experiment’s subject who failed?”
Julia glanced at him and replied coldly, “What consequences could there be? Either death or madness.”
Death… madness…
Mo Wen felt a sharp chill.
Meanwhile, Julia removed her lab coat and glasses, casually tossing them onto a nearby hook.
Beneath, she wore a silver-gray tight leather suit that clung perfectly to her slender figure.
Though slight, her pale legs and astonishing waist-to-hip ratio dazzled the eye.
She stepped into the strange liquid inside the metal cabin, submerging up to her waist. Then she turned to Mo Wen, who was now wide-eyed just a short distance away, and reached out her hand.
“Take off your outer clothes and put on the dream entry suit prepared for you.”
“I will assist you in conducting the first ‘false dream made real’ experiment.”
Can I refuse?
Mo Wen sighed.
He hadn’t expected that the solution Freyria mentioned for the Puppet Curse would be such a dangerous method.
But on second thought, since it involved a forbidden object, if it were easy to resolve, that would be abnormal.
If possible, he wished for a less perilous way to break the curse.
Yet…
Though Freyria and Julia seemed relatively gentle, their attitude depended on his compliance.
If he refused and resisted, as a lowly Black Iron rank facing two top-tier figures, his fate…
With a heavy sigh, Mo Wen obediently took the dream entry suit and went to change in the corner.
Though Julia appeared indifferent, he cared deeply!
Looking on the bright side, having a beautiful girl accompany him into the bath wasn’t such a loss after all.
