It's time for the 50-draw lottery.
After the Apocalypse incident, Jos and his companions—well, two people and a lump of slime—boarded a black ship back to America. For ordinary people, such a thing might seem unattainable, but in warzones, it was quite common. Besides, neither Jos nor Laura were ordinary; nothing particularly dangerous or noteworthy happened along the way.
Once back in America, Laura bid Jos farewell. She was still involved in the secret military X-Weapon Project and couldn't show herself openly. After Jos gave her the locations of all of Charles’s mutant schools, the two parted ways.
Jos didn’t return directly to his base but instead reviewed all the spoils he had recently acquired. From his previous series of a hundred draws, plus ten extra bonus draws, he had received a total of 110 rewards. Subtracting the initial handful and the “Happy Wind Man” series, there were still quite a few left.
Most of the physical items were unimpressive in effect. There were forty-six cosplay items, the rest being useless odds and ends like umbrellas and plastic bags. Together with the purely space-filling [Useless Ability], he had forty-eight such things in total.
In the end, seven usable abilities remained:
[Name: Hand-Brewed Black Tea]
[Rarity: R]
[Effect: Any black tea you personally brew will automatically have a sleep-inducing effect.]
**************************
[Name: Coo Coo Coo]
[Rarity: SSR]
[Effect: Sorry, I bailed.]
**************************
[Name: One Percent Perfect Copy]
[Rarity: SR]
[Effect: Perfectly copies one percent of your opponent’s abilities.]
[PS: Only effective on abilities innately possessed by the target; equipment and derivative powers are excluded.]
**************************
[Name: Childhood Innocence]
[Rarity: N]
[Effect: When engaging in any game of “bigger or smaller,” if you abstain from guessing, both sides will end up with very small results.]
**************************
[Name: King of Gravity]
[Rarity: R]
[Effect: When weighing yourself, you can freely adjust the number on the scale.]
**************************
[Name: Double Blossoms]
[Rarity: R]
[Effect: Speaking of Marvel, we immediately think of Sino-American co-productions… In short, double blossoms, double blossoms.]
**************************
[Name: Friendship-Forging Face-Punch Gloves]
[Rarity: SR]
[Effect: Wearing these gloves to punch someone will deepen your friendship.]
[PS: Only works on friendly targets.]
As always, these subtle abilities made up the majority. But Jos was no longer the young man who would complain at every bit of nonsense he encountered; seeing these new powers, he simply contemplated them seriously.
Among them, the Friendship-Forging Face-Punch Gloves seemed the most useful. Though they couldn’t turn foes into allies, for those with peculiar personalities, they were almost an artifact. The thought that he might one day be able to extract money from Stark by giving him a good punch filled Jos with a strange sense of… satisfaction?
“The only SSR skill doesn’t seem to have any practical meaning for now, but I suppose it can’t be that bad… right?” Jos squinted at “Coo Coo Coo” for a while before looking away. He had no idea how to test that one, so he would just have to wait for an opportunity in the future.
As for the other abilities, after inspecting them, Jos couldn’t see any immediate application and simply pushed them to the back of his mind.
“Come to think of it, I still haven’t used the guaranteed SSR draw from defeating Apocalypse. I’d better settle that before returning to base.”
Although he didn’t have high hopes for the result, Jos was still interested in the act of drawing itself. No matter how terrible a mobile game is, the thrill of pulling a card is always the same—and for Jos, this was no exception.
With a thought, he activated his one-time drawing privilege, and the system interface spun like a carousel. The process didn’t take long; within seconds, a golden, radiant object appeared before his eyes.
“Oh? It’s actually a physical item? I just hope it’s not as useless as that Jade Dragon Hotpot…” He grumbled to himself, then reached out and took the gleaming object.
“Hmm… Seeing this golden light, I feel like I’m forgetting something… Hey, Blackie, do you know what’s going on?”
“Don’t bother me, I’m exhausted.” Curled up and asleep inside Jos, Blackie offered not the slightest courtesy, muttered a complaint, and fell silent again.
“Click… Whatever, it’s probably nothing important. It’s just that my pants feel a little loose today.” Muttering to himself, Jos turned his gaze to the newly acquired item.
[Name: Holy Grail (from a certain unknown singularity)]
[Rarity: UR]
[Effect: The legendary Holy Grail, known as the ultimate wish-granting device. Its effects speak for themselves.]
[PS: The necessary magical energy has been prefilled by the system, and it has no relation to any Alaya, Gaia, or similar entities.]
[PS2: The magical energy will dissipate over time; please use promptly to avoid invalidation. After a single use, the wish-granting function will be lost forever.]
“Hey, hey… Do you really think I haven’t spent a night binging Fate? If I actually use this thing as an omnipotent wish machine, are you trying to screw me over?”
In the original story where the Holy Grail appeared, it was a notorious trap. Put simply, if someone wished to eliminate war, the result would be something as perverse as “kill all humanity, and there will be no more war.”
And now, this infamous object had been manufactured by an even more unreliable system…
No way, I can’t afford to mess with this. Can I draw again?
“And don’t even get me started on its functions… Not only is it the Holy Grail, but it’s literally a cup…”
Staring at the object in his hand, Jos suddenly felt he had overestimated the system’s lower limits.
“So why is it a flying X-cup?! Which lunatic magician made this? Your Holy Grail Wars are going to be in tears!”
…
Complaints aside, Jos had no reason to let go of a pseudo-omnipotent wish machine.
“Let me think. First, I can’t wish for anything too vague or abstract; the objective has to be clear, leaving no room for word games.”
Having dealt with the system for so long, Jos was well-versed in avoiding loopholes and had no intention of falling into the Holy Flying X-Cup’s trap. As long as he didn’t make overly broad wishes, the Grail wouldn’t have a chance to mess things up.
So things like “eliminate Thanos” didn’t even cross Jos’s mind; who knew, the Grail might just teleport him straight to Thanos and tell him to do it himself.
“In that case, using it to acquire equipment is probably the best choice. After all, I don’t have a decent weapon at the moment.”
With that thought, Jos set his sights on the many legendary artifacts scattered throughout the Marvel universe.
