Chapter 5: Three Times
The words sounded casual, but they sent a real jolt through Lu Zhizhi’s heart. Having harbored feelings for this man for so many years, she understood his cold personality better than anyone. When it came to matters and people unrelated to him, he was always indifferent.
Yet now, his words were tinged with unmistakable emotion.
She, however, could neither ask nor reveal anything. All she could do was chew over the name Song Mi in her mind, over and over, grinding it to dust.
Across from her, Wen Yanli, having said those words, lowered his head and focused intently on the food in front of him.
By this time, he already remembered where he’d once smelled the fragrance on Song Mi’s hair in the elevator that afternoon.
It wasn’t that his eyesight was poor.
The truth was, this woman really knew how to play her games.
He was almost certain now: that night, she had deliberately put on makeup to resemble someone else.
As for the so-called “official widow” of Old Master Shen...
His hand slicing the steak didn’t falter in the slightest, but on his strikingly handsome face—fairer than frost, whiter than snow—his thick brows drew together ever so slightly.
If neither his senses nor his sight were failing him, then Song Mi’s first time had been with him.
A man of advanced age is still a man. If Song Mi truly had a relationship with Old Master Shen, what were the odds that he would have left her untouched?
…
Elsewhere, Song Mi was fully absorbed in her meal.
For half an hour, she indulged in the food before her, not saying a single word.
The person sitting across from her was tactful too, remaining silent nearly the entire time.
Only when she’d finally satisfied her appetite did she reach for a glass of champagne, sipping it slowly, savoring each mouthful.
To escape from death’s door was, after all, something to be grateful for!
When she was trapped in the elevator that afternoon, there were more than a few moments when she’d felt the panic of failing before she even set out on her mission.
But come to think of it, she and that man seemed to share a peculiar fate: just today alone, they’d run into each other three times.
Moments ago, as she walked in, she’d spotted him out of the corner of her eye—along with the woman seated across from him.
So, it was likely that the woman staying in the presidential suite below her was this one.
No wonder she’d been left alone in the lounge so early—he must have been eager to dine with his beauty.
Clearing her thoughts, Song Mi soon said, “Assistant Lin, I trust you don’t mind starting immediately. Also, would you help me pick a bottle of red wine and send it up to the 47th floor?”
…
About an hour later.
Lu Zhizhi heard the doorbell ring. She went to answer it. “Yes, may I help you?”
“Good evening,” the man replied with a polite and measured smile. “My surname is Lin. I’m Miss Song Mi’s assistant. Miss Song asked me to bring this over and to thank Attorney Wen for his help this afternoon.”
He handed over the bottle of wine.
Had Lu Zhizhi not called her brother as soon as she returned and learned that Wen Yanli had visited the Shen family’s memorial hall that morning, she might have lost her composure.
“Miss Song is very considerate!” she replied smoothly, opening the door a little wider, a delicate blush coloring her fine-featured face. “But Ali is taking a shower right now, so he’s not available to accept this in person.”
With those words, she stepped forward and took the wine box. “Thank you for your trouble, Assistant Lin. Please pass our thanks to Miss Song.”
“You’re too kind,” Assistant Lin nodded slightly, then turned and left.
As soon as the door closed, Lu Zhizhi’s expression darkened.
A woman’s intuition is rarely wrong—this Song Mi’s actions were entirely deliberate!
She thought that since Wen Yanli was here, the wine was just an excuse—her real aim was to disturb them!
Old Master Shen’s body was barely cold, yet already she couldn’t wait to seduce another man?
Shameless!
Disgusted, Lu Zhizhi tossed the wine box into the trash, picked up her phone, and dialed, “Hello, brother…”
…
Upstairs, after receiving Assistant Lin’s report, the smile at Song Mi’s lips lingered for a long time.
Half an hour later, she changed her clothes and went out.
Her Land Rover prowled the night with domineering ease, as though its owner were venting some pent-up emotion. Thirty minutes later, it came to a steady stop at the entrance of the most famous bar street in Jinzhou City.
But no sooner had she stepped out and walked a few paces than she spotted that familiar figure once more.
He was even wearing the same clothes from earlier.
Broad shoulders, narrow waist, a shapely figure, and legs that were long and straight.
Who else could it be but the unflappable Attorney Wen?
Staring boldly at the man’s back, Song Mi’s beautiful fox-like eyes narrowed, a hint of mischief glinting within them. “Attorney Wen…”
