Chapter 106: Singing a Song to Borrow You for Filming

Su Zitan wanted to say something, but the words caught in her throat and wouldn’t come out.
What’s there to say? If it were the old principal back then, something like this might have…
Very likely happened.
That night, the two went to bed early.
The next morning, Su Zitan put on makeup and dressed in the matching couple’s outfit from Zitan Collection.
Tian Haoran picked them up and took them straight to the school gate.
Lin Ze and Su Zitan asked Xiao Qian to wait outside the school; after all, it wouldn’t be appropriate to livestream from inside the school.
Sure enough, as soon as the two got out of the car, they saw a banner stretched above the school gate.
“Welcome outstanding alumni Lin Ze and Su Zitan back to their alma mater!”
Wearing glasses and masks, Lin Ze and Su Zitan walked up to the gate. Although it was Saturday, the second-year students still had remedial classes.
After all, the college entrance exam was 364 days away.
They said a few words to the guard, who looked at them skeptically.
“These are our old student IDs,” they said.
The elderly guard glanced at the IDs, then stared for a long time at a notebook the principal had given them yesterday before finally returning the items.
“Alright, you can go in. The kids are in class now, so don’t wander around.”
Once inside the new campus, the two had no idea where to go. Fortunately, when Su Zitan looked up, she saw their former homeroom teacher.
“Teacher Wang!”
The middle-aged man called Teacher Wang turned around in surprise. Though wearing a mask, he recognized them immediately.
“Ah… Su Zitan!”
Teacher Wang was momentarily stunned, then pulled out a photo of Lin Ze and Su Zitan from his folder.
“Quick, sign this for me.”
“…”
Su Zitan was left speechless, her emotions disrupted.
After signing, Teacher Wang proudly put the photo away.
“Ah, little Su, you’re the first one to run into me today.”
“Let me give you a heads-up: don’t go to the office later. Someone there dug out a photo of you two, and now every teacher has a copy. If you go in, they’ll swarm you, easily wanting twenty or thirty autographs.”

“…”
Seeing their silence, Teacher Wang glanced at Lin Ze.
“Lin, especially you—those teachers who taught you before have at least five or six photos of you waiting for your signature.”
“That’s from old teachers, right? They can’t really do that, can they?” Lin Ze was a little scared.
“That’s mild compared to what our principal says. As the saying goes, when the upper beam isn’t straight, the lower beam…”
“Ahem!”
A deep cough came from behind them. Teacher Wang flinched and turned to see the principal staring at him grimly.
“Ah…”
Teacher Wang awkwardly cleared his throat.
“Well, you guys carry on with your conversation.”
He greeted them and took a few steps away, then stopped, looked back at the two, and said thoughtfully,
“Really… eight years have passed in the blink of an eye, and you’ve both grown up.”
Feeling sentimental, Teacher Wang waved and entered the teaching building.
Honestly, after eight years and countless graduating classes, such strong bonds are rare.
In truth, Su Zitan barely remembered the names of her former classmates after all this time.
She watched her old homeroom teacher disappear into the building.
“Looks like Teacher Wang hasn’t changed much over the years.”
“Well, a bit,” the principal sighed. “He had a serious illness a couple of years ago. When he came back, his hair was completely white. The black hair you see now is dyed.”
Both felt a twinge of nostalgia.
“Let’s go. Shall we talk about what was mentioned on the show yesterday?”
Soon, Lin Ze and Su Zitan sat in the principal’s office.
“As for borrowing the old campus, that’s easy to arrange. I have just one small request. If you agree, the old campus will be lent to you free of charge.”
“What’s the request? Please tell us.” Lin Ze still held great respect for the former principal.
“Today only the second-year students are here. Could you sing a song in the school auditorium? We’d like to record some video and take photos.”
The principal smiled warmly, sitting with a photo wall behind him.
It displayed some of the school’s most outstanding alumni.

“One song? No problem!” Lin Ze agreed without hesitation. Singing a song would only take four or five minutes.
Getting to use a venue for shooting for several days for free was well worth it.
“When do we start?” Lin Ze stood up.
“Don’t rush,” the principal also stood. “‘Those Years’ alright?”
Lin Ze and Su Zitan exchanged a glance and nodded.
There was a TV in the office. The principal handed the remote to them.
“I’ll go make arrangements. During the last class period, I’ll have the students gather in the auditorium.”
After the agreement, the principal quickly left the room. He seemed to have already planned everything, just needing to coordinate the cameras and sound equipment.
Lin Ze stood by the window, looking down at class after class filing into the small auditorium. He remembered back when he was a student and some exceptional alumni would come back to give talks and sell books.
“Do you remember…” Su Zitan pointed to one of the photos on the principal’s wall.
“Yes, yes, I remember that day. He came back to sell books, and we sneaked out early, slipping into the cafeteria half an hour ahead. By the time the lecture ended and they came over, we were already on our second bowls.”
“The principal was pretty good, really. Back then, many kids would sneak out to play on the field, and he just pretended not to notice. The pressure to study in the classroom was suffocating; we always looked forward to alumni coming back for talks.”
Su Zitan caught sight of the principal downstairs, wearing a plaid shirt tucked into his pants, keys jingling at his waist, hurrying over.
Though somewhat absent-minded, he was truly a good principal.
Lin Ze and Su Zitan followed him to the small auditorium.
The principal handed them a permit.
“When you go up to sing, just leave afterward. I still have to give the students some motivation for the college entrance exam.”
“All right, all right.”
Xiao Qian had already received the call and entered the school, holding a camera pointed at the stage.
“Hello everyone! Don’t you think today’s remedial class was worth it?”
The principal joked, and cheers rose from below.
He continued,
“Today, we have the honor of inviting our outstanding alumni, Lin Ze and Su Zitan!”
