Chapter Ninety-One: The Mother and Daughter Who Cut the Line
“Come on, give me the fan. Let me take one of me lifting your chin.” Su Zitan was tugging at the folding fan in Lin Ze’s hand.
“Lift your chin? I’m the Emperor!” Lin Ze refused to let go no matter what.
“Take a picture, take a picture.” Su Zitan had a sudden idea. She pretended the fan had pinched her finger and let out a soft cry.
Lin Ze hurriedly released it.
“Are you all right? Did it pinch you? Where did it get you?”
With a sharp snap, Su Zitan opened the fan and then waved it smugly. “I was fooling you! Come on, take it with me!”
“Fine, fine, fine!” Lin Ze snorted in exasperation.
They took a few more photos there, and then Su Zitan glanced toward the other two nearby.
“I’m going to take pictures with Sister Yan. You go play with Chen Nan, two men together!”
After they had taken enough photos, Su Zitan pushed Lin Ze aside and ran off to find Li Xiyan.
Chen Nan scratched his head, then came running over with his sword in hand.
“So what now, Xiao Lin? We’re taking pictures, the two of us?” he asked, a little uncertain.
Lin Ze was silent for a moment. “How about... never mind.”
“Hmm... I think so too,” Chen Nan said with a solemn nod.
“Are you hungry? Want to go buy something to eat?”
“Sure!”
The two men hit it off at once. There were all kinds of street snacks all along the road.
Not far away was a fried chicken-rib stall with a long line of customers. Even before they got close, they could already smell the rich aroma drifting out from the shop.
The two of them, dressed in traditional robes, lined up at the end of the queue and caused no commotion at all.
“Smells amazing.”
“Mm.”
They stared longingly at the front, swallowing saliva from pure craving.
The stall worked quickly; one pan could fry three or four orders at a time.
The line looked long, but in truth it did not take very long.
Soon Lin Ze and the others had moved up to the middle of the queue.
Three more people in front moved ahead. As the line advanced, Lin Ze hurriedly patted Chen Nan on the shoulder.
“Stay close. I think those two over there look like they’re about to cut in.”
Hearing that, Chen Nan immediately turned to look, and just then, the person in front of him stepped forward suddenly. Chen Nan failed to keep up in time.
A young woman beside them, along with an older lady whose hair was already completely white, took the chance to step straight into the line.
They were cutting so openly?
The line had been cut in such a blatant way.
“Hey—no, ladies, you can’t cut in line,” Chen Nan called from behind to remind them.
Who would have thought the two women in front did not even turn back, acting as though they heard nothing.
Chen Nan looked at Lin Ze, somewhat at a loss.
If they just let this slide, they would never be able to swallow the anger.
But when they spoke up, the two women acted as though they had heard nothing.
Lin Ze had far less patience than Chen Nan. He directly reached out and tapped the young woman on the shoulder.
“Ma’am, isn’t cutting in line a bit improper?”
He had only said one sentence when the mother-and-daughter pair in front abruptly turned around. The woman raised a finger and pointed straight at Lin Ze’s nose, launching into a barrage of curses.
“What are you tugging for? Don’t you dare lay hands on people!”
“No, I didn’t lay hands on anyone. I said you were cutting in line...”
“Who gave you the right to touch me?!”
His words only made the woman even angrier. Her whole face went scarlet.
Her glasses nearly flew off from her agitation. She pushed them back into place, then kept pointing at Lin Ze’s nose.
“Say it! Who gave you the right to touch me!”
The white-haired old lady said nothing at all and swung a hand at Lin Ze. “What are you doing?!”
“I... I didn’t do anything. I just said you shouldn’t cut in line.”
At that moment Lin Ze was completely bewildered.
No, was there something wrong with my memory?
Was it me and Chen Nan who cut in from the side just now?
So it was us who cut in line?
Xiao Qian had originally been over there continuing to photograph Su Zitan and Li Xiyan, since the audience loved to watch them.
But while he was shooting, the noise over there made him look up. Lin Ze, dressed in a black imperial dragon robe, was far too conspicuous; one glance was enough to spot him.
How had they been gone only a moment, and already ended up arguing with someone?
Su Zitan and the others also noticed what was happening, and hurried over.
“Who gave you the right to touch me? You think because you’re wearing a dragon robe I’m supposed to be afraid of you, is that it?”
Lin Ze looked at the woman in front of him, her face flushed red, her hands continuously pushing up her glasses and fiddling with her bangs.
Her hands were trembling without stop.
The old lady beside her, with her snow-white hair, was the same—she pointed at Lin Ze and hurled insults in a dialect he could not understand at all.
“You damn well like bullying the weak, I’m telling you. I hate people like you most—cowards who pick on the soft and fear the hard!”
“Hey, hey, hey? What’s going on here?” Su Zitan hurried over.
What happened? What did Brother Lin do?
Did Chen Nan and Lin Ze cut in line? No way. Those two normally don’t seem like that.
Then what’s going on? Look at how red that woman’s face is from anger.
Lin Ze and Chen Nan were both baffled. Lin Ze turned stiffly around and said in a low voice, “I suspect these two are Zhang’s fans. They weren’t trying to cut in at all. They were looking for a chance to kill me...”
Pfft... Li Xiyan laughed beside them.
“You’re still laughing over there! I’m telling you, don’t think we’re easy to bully!” the woman shouted, continuing her tirade.
“What exactly happened? Did you two cut in line?” Su Zitan was full of confusion.
“It wasn’t them who cut in line. It was those two women in front,” said a burly man from the back of the crowd, unable to stand it any longer. “Luckily I have footage here.”
Xiao Qian, carrying the camera, squeezed over.
The video showed clearly how the man had been holding his phone and trying to circle around, only to catch the two women stepping into the line.
Then Lin Ze tapped the woman’s shoulder to remind her, and she immediately spun around and started cursing.
What the hell? What is this about?
They cut in line, and now they’re acting righteous about it?
Given how confidently they had just behaved, I almost thought it was Lin Ze and Chen Nan who had cut in line.
The white-haired old lady at the front had kept turning to stare this way. Seeing the man pull out a video, she shot everyone there a fierce glare.
“We didn’t cut in line. We already stood in this spot this morning. We just didn’t buy anything then, so we left first.”
“What, you think because there are more of you, we’ll be afraid?” the woman snapped. “I’m telling you, you picked the wrong people today!”
She pulled off her glasses, clutching them in her hand, her finger nearly poking Lin Ze in the nose.
“Hey, you—” Lin Ze’s temper flared at once.
The man behind him quickly grabbed him. “Forget it, forget it. We’re out having fun. No need for this. There’s an old saying.”
“Better to have a fight with a smart person than say a word to an idiot.”
“You’re the idiot!” The two women were already almost at the shop entrance, and the woman still did not forget to turn back and hurl another insult at the man.
“We’re going to...”
The woman turned to look at the price list on the wall.
