Chapter Nineteen: A Unique Path to Apotheosis
The path to divinity, in truth, refers broadly to methods of enhancing one’s bloodline power, including the act of blood awakening—permanently elevating one’s bloodline and gaining immense strength at the cost of certain side effects.
Yet Lu Mingfei’s path to divinity is unlike any other. He is already the greatest monster in this world, so he has no need to awaken his blood to strengthen his lineage. Instead, as Neuvillette once said, he simply needs to perceive his own existence through special means, to sense his own authority, and thus his bloodline and spirit will ascend.
Of course, such perception cannot be aimless. Only by taking Neuvillette’s centuries of cultivation as reference, and through his meticulous explanations, could Lu Mingfei grasp the essence of self-improvement and truly embark upon this path.
He exhaled softly.
Lu Mingfei naturally closed his eyes, meticulously attuned to his existence, sensing the hidden power within his bloodline, and attempting to awaken and activate it, making it his constant combat strength.
This was his unique path to divinity, a road no other could imitate.
After a brief period of cultivation, Lu Mingfei began to notice something amiss within himself. He slowly opened his eyes, instinctively clenched his fists, feeling his body brimming with power—power so formidable that he felt he could slay a polar bear with a single punch!
Wait, what’s this black spot on my fist?
Staring intently, he saw a black dragon scale growing on his knuckle—a distinctive mark of the hidden bloodline being activated. Yet, as the power he could channel was limited for now, so too was the dragon transformation.
“Wait... wait!”
He jumped off the bed, hurried to the hotel bathroom, and gazed into the mirror. There, fierce dragon scales appeared on his face and body, and his eyes burned gold with draconic intensity. Suddenly, a realization struck him—perhaps he was not purely human.
“Calm down! Calm down!”
He took a deep breath, suppressed the urge to release the hidden power within. The black dragon scales slowly faded, and he returned to his purely human form, as though the entire process had been but a hallucination.
Am I... not entirely human?
That’s right, the little devil once said that if I unleashed such a powerful spiritual domain, I might be hunted as a dragon king. Is it possible that I am a dragon myself, and that’s why I could be mistaken for a dragon king?
He sighed deeply, crouched in the hotel bathroom, staring at the ceiling lamp.
If I’m not human... does it matter?
Wait, right—Neuvillette, who often worked with Furina, is the Water Dragon King. In her world, dragons of different races don’t seem to be a big deal. I needn’t fret over my identity; if it’s not a concern there, then it’s not a problem here.
However, in my world, being a dragon could be dangerous. I mustn’t use draconic powers or spiritual domains lightly, or I might invite peril.
Even so, I need to familiarize myself with these powers.
Otherwise, if my hidden identity is ever discovered and I’m attacked, what if I don’t know how to fight back? What if I’m hunted down?
I may choose not to use my power, but I cannot be powerless.
“Brother, did you know? You’re actually the greatest monster in this world,” the little devil said, smiling at Lu Mingfei as he sat in the bathroom, lost in thought.
Lu Mingfei slowly raised his head, a satisfied smile spreading across his face. “Yes, that’s wonderful. I like this identity.”
The little devil was momentarily speechless. He didn’t understand how Lu Mingfei, after seeming so pensive and melancholic, could instantly recover his composure and even feel amused.
How does he do it?
What’s going on with his mental state?
Lu Mingfei stood up smiling, leisurely straightened his attire. He cared nothing for his race, because those he cared about didn’t mind, and in this world, he wasn’t particularly concerned about others’ opinions.
After all, things have already been bad enough, haven’t they?
How much worse could it get?
“Furina, let’s sleep together. Maybe we can try to visit each other’s dreams?” Lu Mingfei asked as he adjusted his appearance.
“It’s possible, but I think the chances are slim. You’d best not get your hopes up too much,” Furina replied.
Dreams are deep experiences of the subconscious. Their whispered conversations echoed in each other’s minds, so linking dreams was difficult.
“By the way, Furina, I have a question.”
“What is it?”
“If I’m not human but a dragon, how would you feel?”
“How amazing, how wonderful!” Furina pondered briefly, then answered tentatively.
Lu Mingfei laughed, relieved. As expected, Furina was the best friend. He’d thought she might say she didn’t care about his identity or race, but instead, she praised him outright.
It seemed her world was even more open and free than he’d imagined, with dragons warmly accepted.
He longed to visit!
“In our world, dragons are the pinnacle of elemental life. The complete dragon king fully commands a particular element. If you’re a dragon, you must have mastered some elemental power. Which element is it?” Furina asked with curiosity.
“Element?” Lu Mingfei thought carefully and replied, “I can command all elements. With my mental strength, I can manipulate all elements to create any effect I desire, to accomplish whatever I set my mind to. That is my power—Words of Power.”
“By controlling the essence of elements with my mind, and binding them with language, I can manifest specific forms. My power isn’t confined to any single element.”
“Words of Power... that’s incredible,” Furina’s voice grew quieter. Suddenly, she felt useless—she possessed no strength, could accomplish nothing. Apart from her role as Water God, none of her efforts seemed meaningful.
Her intelligence network spanned the whole continent, and her attempts for the people of Fontaine had never ceased. Yet despite everything, all she ever gained was disappointment; nothing could avert the prophecy. No matter how much she researched or tried, it was futile.
She sighed.
But why does this feel so familiar?
Black power, dragons, all attributes, outside the world...
It felt as though she’d seen all this somewhere before, but for the moment, she couldn’t recall. What could it be?
