Chapter Sixty-Nine: Fucalos Captured
At night, Lu Mingfei and Feiningna once again discussed Jörmungandr at length, but regrettably, the deeper they delved into their analysis, the less they understood this Dragon King.
Being lovesick seemed to be the perfect explanation, capable of justifying all irrationality.
However, it felt undeniably odd for a Dragon King to be so romantically obsessed! On the other hand, if they treated it as a conspiracy, much of it fell apart under scrutiny, making Jörmungandr seem foolish, like a scheming simpleton. What true Dragon King would give away all their power to someone else? Especially to someone they didn’t even love?
Perhaps it was due to insufficient information, lacking key facts—they simply could not reach an answer.
“Sigh, there’s just no answer,”
Lu Mingfei lay on the hotel bed, gazing helplessly at the ceiling.
Yet soon, he began to smile.
Even without reaching a conclusion, the feeling of discussing a shared topic with someone he liked was rather wonderful, wasn’t it? The spark of intellectual exchange was delightful, and if only they could talk face to face, it would be even better. Unfortunately, he could only see her face; they could only meet in dreams, but dreams, after all, are just dreams—there is always a moment of waking.
“Sigh…”
Lu Mingfei sighed again. The emotional changes and reflections no longer brought about any further transformation within him. Perhaps the threshold of the juvenile Dragon King was indeed a barrier that, once awakened, could be crossed quickly. After that, he could only slowly accumulate strength.
His previous rapid progress had, in truth, been due to absorbing that fragment of authority.
If that was the case…
How long had Xia Mi been accumulating strength to reach the peak of sub-adulthood?
All those years of diligent preparation, only for her senior brother to take it away. And instead of killing him, Xia Mi chose to live with him—this seemed far too much like true love.
“The day of judgment is almost here. Let’s not chat idly tonight. Rest well, and tomorrow, we’ll talk with the servant,” said Feiningna.
“Yes, it’s time for sleep.”
Dream Eater, activate!
—
The World of Dreams
Once again, it was the familiar street and the familiar bench, but this time, the person sitting there was not the one he knew. It was a long-haired girl whose features resembled Feiningna’s.
At this moment, she trembled as she raised her head, looking in confusion at Feiningna and in surprise at Lu Mingfei. Forcing a somewhat awkward smile, she waved tentatively and said, “Hi.”
“Oh, it’s you,”
Lu Mingfei’s gaze was full of meaning.
The Dream Eater was uncontrollable—this had always been an obstacle when he and Feiningna entered the dream together. If the world inside the dream contained only himself and Feiningna, he could run to the lovely girl without hesitation.
But if someone else was there, he had to restrain himself, waiting until the servant was ejected from the dream before beginning his time with Feifei.
Such restraint seemed simple and ordinary, with no particular significance, yet this very simplicity made Lu Mingfei feel especially uncomfortable. It was as if the engine stalled right before takeoff.
Recently, he had been cultivating his mental strength, improving his control over his spirit. So, this time when activating the Dream Eater, he took some extra care, subtly altering the mental triggers to pull in the desired consciousness more quickly.
Simply put, he set a precondition, and this precondition successfully tricked Fucarlos, pulling her directly into the dream.
She had been about to transfer the Dream Eater to the servant through Feiningna, as usual, unconsciously directing the force toward the servant—like a child tossing a ball. But she hadn’t realized that this time, the ball Lu Mingfei threw was actually a bomb. The moment she touched it, it exploded.
It’s over! It’s all over!
“You?” Feiningna stared in surprise at Fucarlos, turning to Lu Mingfei with confusion. The meaningful smile on his face made her even more puzzled. Secretly tugging at Lu Mingfei’s sleeve, she whispered, “Hey, hey, what’s going on? You never told me about this before!”
“I’ve been training my mind lately, so my control has improved a bit. Now, when I use the Dream Eater, I can tweak its nature somewhat. Clearly, I managed to catch a little cutie just now.”
Lu Mingfei looked at Fucarlos, who resembled Feiningna, with an unexpectedly pleasant demeanor. Although he disliked having the servant dragged in for no reason, if that person looked even a little like Feiningna, he could tolerate it and listen to her explanation.
“How did you end up here? Why was Lu Mingfei able to pull you in? What was the connection?” Feiningna questioned Fucarlos.
“Our minds are linked. He’s always been able to pull me in—it’s just that before, I gave my share to the servant instead,” Fucarlos replied timidly.
—
Within the dreamscape of Fontain, as a deity, Fucarlos could clearly sense the immense power contained within Lu Mingfei—perhaps his true strength, or perhaps a boost granted by the dream world. From her perspective, Lu Mingfei was terrifyingly strong.
This guy… must never be made an enemy!
More importantly, she knew that if something happened to herself or Feiningna in the dream, the same negative consequences that befell the servant would likely occur in reality.
The servant’s power was immense, nearly godlike, but Feiningna was just an ordinary person. If Feiningna were killed by him in the dream, then in reality…
I must be very careful in this conversation!
“So it was you pulling the servant in. You did well the first few times, but don’t do it again unless I give you the signal,” Feiningna said with a smile, naturally taking Lu Mingfei’s arm and leaning gently against his shoulder.
“…Alright.”
Fucarlos looked at the affectionate pair with a slightly complicated feeling. Feiningna was her human side; seeing that side of herself so enamored with this dark monster, she didn’t know how to persuade her otherwise.
What are you doing!
That guy is clearly so dangerous!
“He’s Lu Mingfei. I’ve told you about him—he’s a wonderful person, truly wonderful!” Feiningna smiled proudly, gripping Lu Mingfei’s arm a little tighter.
“Yes, he’s a good person.”
Fucarlos echoed awkwardly.
Right now, she was anxious and frightened, but not for fear of her own death, nor Feiningna’s. Her fear was that if either of them died now, Fontain’s prophecy would shatter everything, and centuries of her efforts would be destroyed.
For a fleeting moment, Fucarlos finally understood how the servant felt. Watching the two so wrapped up in each other, all she wanted was to escape this hell as quickly as possible.
