Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Two Most Untouchable Women in the World
“Sister Lengzheng…” Tang Shiying suddenly arrived at Lengzheng’s villa in the rain, tears streaming down her face. “Brother-in-law, Sister Xiner, Brother-in-law…”
“What’s wrong, Shiying?” Xiner hurried to the living room, throwing on a coat, and looked at Tang Shiying with concern.
“Yes, Shiying, what’s happened?” Lengzheng and Xiner brought her inside, wiping away her tears and asking gently.
“I… I…” Tang Shiying leaned on Lengzheng’s shoulder, glancing at Lengzheng and Li Xiner, at a loss for words.
“Take a moment to calm yourself, all right? Speak when you’re ready,” Li Xiner said, sensing something was very wrong.
Tang Shiying nodded. “Sister Xiner, you should rest first. After all, you’re pregnant. Sister Lengzheng, you should rest too—your health isn’t good.”
Lengzheng shook her head. “I’m fine. I can’t rest when you’re like this.”
“I’m fine too. The pregnancy is stable,” Xiner said, taking Tang Shiying’s hand and shaking her head with a gentle smile.
Tang Shiying nodded silently.
At that moment, Cheng Yunting and Li Mingze brought in freshly brewed milk tea, handing a cup to each of the ladies.
With reddened eyes, Tang Shiying finally began to explain what had happened…
I attended university in the capital with Cijing. We studied together, memorized legal texts, went out to have fun… Along the way, we met many fellow girls who loved original novels as much as we did. There was one girl who fell for Cijing and tried to come between us. But Cijing was never swayed by her, always cherishing me.
Su Zhiyan, seeing that Song Cijing was not easy to win over, kept whispering to me that I wasn’t good enough for Song Cijing, that society would never accept us standing side by side, that I would only hold her back.
I didn’t want to hinder Cijing’s future, so I gave up on our relationship. Around that time, the school announced an exchange opportunity with Cambridge for sophomores. I applied and was selected.
Cijing didn’t know about this until the teachers announced my selection. I told her myself afterwards.
Afterwards, I hid behind a wall for a while, quietly watching Cijing and wiping my tears. When I saw Su Zhiyan go to comfort her, I left.
A few days later, Cijing applied to replace me in the Cambridge program for four years. Seeing her so determined, I agreed to let her go instead…
“Damn it! Why would you give up on Cijing? What’s there to fear from society?” Lengzheng and Li Xiner, having grasped the whole story, were both crying and laughing at once.
“I… I’m just not good enough… I feel I don’t deserve her…” Tang Shiying sobbed as she answered.
Lengzheng and Li Xiner exchanged a look, somewhat baffled. So this is what geniuses lament about?
How bad could someone be if they were recommended for Tsinghua University? Damn, here we go again with the humblebragging!
In truth, Lengzheng and Li Xiner were both extraordinary as well.
One of them had completed all her schooling from elementary to high school by age two, and began learning medicine; by three, she’d mastered several industries; at ten, after her godparents passed away, she cleverly let it slip that the Li family’s eldest daughter was missing, quelling suspicion from other families, then went on to support the Li, Mu, Lu, Cheng, and Li families, helped their shares recover, and founded Yunxin Group.
The other had finished all coursework by age two, mastered numerous fields by three, and at five became the backbone of the capital’s business world, sustaining an entire economic empire and leaving everyone else far behind. By ten, she retired and left the Qin brothers to manage things, while she went on to pursue other endeavors.
These were the two women known the world over as untouchable—the heads of the Qin and Su families, Qin Xinqi and the head of the Li and Mu families, Li Xiner.
PS: I promise I’ll fill this plot hole—leaving it unresolved simply isn’t realistic.
I just realized I have too many subplots and CPs to handle. Oh dear, it’s almost too much.
Well, see you tomorrow~
