Leng Zheng headed straight for the boarding gate, paying no attention to the car that followed behind her.

...

"Leng Zheng!" Cheng Yunting called out loudly as he saw her get out of the car and did the same himself.

"Why are you following me?" Leng Zheng looked at Cheng Yunting and Shen Dongleng, her eyes filled with confusion.

"Leng Zheng, come home with me, please. Don’t go." Cheng Yunting stepped forward, gazing at her with humility, his voice pleading. "Don’t leave, Leng Zheng, please don’t go."

"Cheng Yunting, we are the past now. We’re not the present anymore." Leng Zheng lowered her head and smiled faintly.

"Leng Zheng, if you come back now, I’ll leave, all right? Your health is unstable; you can't take a flight. I’ll go. I’ll go somewhere else, okay?" Cheng Yunting begged, "Leng Zheng, I’ll leave now. Please, just go back to the hospital and get treatment, all right?"

Leng Zheng nodded, walked up to Cheng Yunting, and crouched down in front of him.

"Leng Zheng..." Cheng Yunting looked at her. "What’s wrong? Stand up."

"Cheng Yunting, even if you’re going to leave, shouldn’t you take something with you? You can’t just go so lonely and empty-handed." Leng Zheng pulled out a knife, leaned close to Cheng Yunting’s ear, and suddenly plunged the blade in.

She felt blood flowing over her hand, but in the next moment, a cold, strong hand gripped hers.

"Leng Zheng, you should go deeper," Cheng Yunting said, holding her hand and pressing the wound deeper. "Leng Zheng, like this… could you stay? Please?"

"Utterly absurd." Without a trace of emotion, Leng Zheng tossed out these words and walked away.

"No matter how absurd, it’s all for you," Cheng Yunting replied with a soft smile, watching her departing figure.

"My god, what just happened? Did you stab yourself or did Leng Zheng do it for you? I have to say, this spot isn’t actually that dangerous, but it’ll hurt you for a while," Shen Dongleng sighed. "Truly, you shouldn’t provoke a girl who knows medicine."

"Let’s go."

"Go where?" Shen Dongleng looked at Cheng Yunting in surprise.

"To S City."

"My god! Old Cheng, aren’t you going to take care of your wound first?" Shen Dongleng suddenly became flustered.

"Yes. Tell them to prepare the private jet. We’re going to S City now," Cheng Yunting nodded.

"All right, but it’ll take some time to get the plane ready. Let’s bandage you up first, at least a basic treatment," Shen Dongleng suggested tentatively.

"Fine."

"Got it!"

...

Leng Zheng saw Cheng Yunting return to the waiting area, then come back to board the plane.

She sent him a text message:

You don’t need to leave. I’ll go. Do as you please; it doesn’t matter. If we ever meet again, we can pretend to be strangers. I don’t need your help. When the child is born, they’ll stay with me.

You were the one who abandoned me first. Now, I don’t want you anymore. Don’t come back. Let’s just go our separate ways and find peace.

After sending the message, her tears began to fall uncontrollably, though she didn’t know why.

"Darling, let’s have two children in the future—one boy, one girl. The girl will take your surname, the boy will take mine."

"Darling, be good, all right? Hmm?"

"When the children are born, we’ll leave them with our parents and enjoy our own world together. And I want to give you a grand wedding, so everyone knows you’re my wife!"

Why? Just a moment ago, we were still dreaming about the future, but now we’re apart. Why does it have to be this way?
