Chapter 107: G-3 Predator (Bonus chapter for helmsman Nan Shou Xiang Bei Shou)
After the first three rounds of draws, Luke had long wanted to shout excitedly, “Tonight, luck is overflowing!”
He strongly suspected that the goddess of fortune had taken a liking to his charming, universally adored youthful face.
Without hesitation, Luke seized the moment and proceeded to draw the fifth round.
The result came swiftly.
The guaranteed reward was yet another skill book!
[Skill Book: G-3 Predator]
“Wonderful! The War Lord finally has something to mount!” Luke clasped his hands together, a gleam of joy shining in his eyes, his face beaming with happiness.
The War Lord, which originally came without any weapon mounts, now had its seasoning packet.
He wondered what the system designer had been thinking—whether it was the air combat mecha “Gale” or the G-0 War Lord, at first, all they obtained were just blueprints for the chassis. No weapons or mounts of any kind were included.
Now, at last, he had drawn a G-series mech from the Machinist class that perfectly complemented the War Lord.
With a gentle clap of his hands, the skill book transformed into dazzling specks of light, instantly absorbed by him. Luke closed his eyes, earnestly savoring the familiar sensation of knowledge pouring into his mind.
The feeling was truly marvelous.
Others had to spend decades of painstaking study to acquire such profound mecha engineering knowledge.
He had absorbed it in merely ten seconds, and with a day or two to digest it, this knowledge would become instinctive.
“So, structurally, the G-3 Predator can be considered a genuine part of the War Lord?”
Luke reviewed the new blueprint in his mind and was amazed to uncover a significant revelation.
It turned out that the G-0 War Lord he’d been piloting all along was not the complete form.
The true complete form consisted of four parts: the G-0 War Lord (main body), G-1 Corona (photon cannon), G-2 Cyclone (electromagnetic pulse cannon), and G-3 Predator (laser emitter).
Without G-1, G-2, and G-3, the G-0 was truly just an empty shell.
Luke thought of his pitiful War Lord, which only had a single gun under its hip. He felt a mixture of amusement and frustration—without any mounts, he had no choice but to make do. Ordinary weapons no longer appealed to him.
Luckily, wielding a sword with a mecha was very cool.
Now, with a mount, Luke felt his War Lord resembled a Gundam even more.
G-3 Predator: Equipped with a set of laser emitters that fire high-energy lasers to damage enemies. It can automatically track enemy targets, relentlessly pursuing them and continuously firing lasers.
One could imagine it like a swarm of flies clinging to a target, relentlessly attacking with lasers.
“It seems the Assault Freedom also has a similar mount, but theirs is much more powerful, with over a dozen cannons per group and an incredibly strong concentrated fire effect,” Luke recalled. He couldn’t help but compare the two.
The advantage of the G-3 Predator was its ability to continuously track and fire lasers at enemies, plus it was quite affordable.
Based on the materials listed on the blueprint, a single laser emitter cost roughly ten thousand dollars and was reusable.
Moreover, the G-series was the War Lord’s original mount—no modification needed, just plug and play.
The drawbacks were obvious: the emitted high-energy lasers had limited intensity and required continuous exposure.
Additionally, the blueprint stated that only six emitters could be networked into one group; due to signal coordination and other technical constraints, exceeding six caused unknown errors, greatly reducing stability in combat, sometimes even causing the G-3 Predator to cease functioning.
Luke scratched his head, furrowed his brow, and pondered seriously for a long while. His youthful face had the demeanor of a mature strategist.
“Since it’s a technical issue, it’s not insurmountable. Technology will advance sooner or later. The laser intensity problem can be solved by improving the laser generators—raising frequency, switching power sources, perhaps using an Ark reactor for energy supply.
“As for the grouping issue, that’s not hard either. If one group cannot exceed six emitters, try creating multiple groups and install several master modules on the War Lord. In battle, let Christina coordinate and allocate them. After all, this is the real world, and there will always be ways to improve.”
Luke felt the G-3 Predator had appeared just in time, compensating for the War Lord’s previously limited and singular crowd-control attack methods.
Currently, the War Lord was more like a steel knight wielding a giant blade, excelling in one-on-one combat.
In a massive battle in New York, facing thousands of locust-like Chitauri, it would inevitably be overwhelmed.
No matter how strong the Adamantium alloy plating was, the War Lord would be swallowed by waves of enemies.
Now, things were much better. With the G-3 Predator, firing six or more laser combat units in swarm formation, like drones, it could efficiently clear out minions and greatly amplify the War Lord’s combat effectiveness.
“It seems that suitability is the best. Increasing combat power is not just one plus one equals two. I wonder when I’ll draw the G-1 Corona and G-2 Cyclone. If only there were a skill selection gift box,” Luke thought with some lingering desire.
Putting those thoughts aside, Luke proceeded to the sixth round of draws.
Amid a pile of devilstone shards and data chips lay a skill book with a plain, unassuming cover.
Luke reached out and picked it up.
[Skill Book: Purification]
A universal skill from the Cleric class, rarely seen in combat. The skill book described its effect as: removing negative status effects from the target.
“Negative statuses? Like stun, petrification, poisoning?” Luke’s mind started to wander. After a moment, he concluded that while it might not be highly practical, it certainly wasn’t useless.
At the very least, it was one of the few “magic” skills he had learned.
“In battle, I can’t be a nursemaid to others. So this skill is more for myself, occasionally solving a companion’s troubles. No wonder its usage rate isn’t very high…”
The skill’s inherent limitations determined its ceiling. As a battle fanatic, Luke preferred skills that directly enhanced his combat power—like the G-3 Predator he had just gained.
The seventh round’s ten consecutive draws’ results appeared quickly.
[Skill Book: Sand Throw]
“Street Fighter’s Sand Throw?”
Luke’s expression turned peculiar as he read the description: “Throws sand, quicklime, or horse manure to temporarily blind the enemy…”
Too lowly!
No way, no way! Absolutely not!
Using such a skill would be utterly embarrassing. He was an Apostle, idolized by thousands of young girls—how could he stoop to throwing sand like a street thug?
Using a brick to knock someone out was one thing—that was a divine technique. No matter who you were, one brick and you’d be stunned.
Throwing sand? Could it really cause complete blindness?
“Hey, wait, the description says it actually can? Hmm, secretly use it, just don’t let anyone see. If they do, silence them,” Luke secretly resolved.
