Chapter 140 All aboard, let's go!
Inside the exclusive Avengers hall at Stark Tower, Steve and the others had already returned to America and were exchanging intelligence with Nick Fury.
This type of non-critical meeting did not require everyone to be present. Spider-Man and Gambit naturally skipped it to tend to their personal lives, and the super backpack hero whom Joss had never even met was absent as well. Only those familiar faces remained here.
"Is that so? So Bucky managed to escape in the end, but you inadvertently discovered Loki's tracks." Nick Fury nodded, indicating that he understood.
"What on earth is that foolish brother of mine up to..." Sitting nearby and listening for a while, Thor furrowed his brows and pondered while twirling the hammer in his hand.
Nick Fury did not hide anything regarding his question and stated bluntly, "According to our intelligence, he intends to open a spatial wormhole above New York City—our current location—and unleash an army of Chitauri upon Earth."
"What?! How dare he!" Thor was startled upon hearing this, though his life on Earth recently had somewhat normalized his temperament and thinking patterns, preventing him from resorting to smashing things.
"No, if that is the case, I must return to Asgard immediately to warn my father. If Loki wishes to accomplish this, he should require that particular item..."
After a brief moment of thought, Thor roughly deduced Loki's plan and stood up immediately, preparing to leave.
"Wait, Thor." Just as Thor was about to get up, however, Nick Fury stopped him. "Isn't it just opening a door to bring in a bunch of aliens? Let him open it. Let him open it."
"But..." Thor instinctively wanted to retort, but upon a second thought, he understood Fury's implication.
If his foolish brother really came here to cause trouble, setting everything else aside, just the people present here were more than enough to give him a hard time, not to mention that the powerhouses on this planet were by no means few. Cannon fodder minor minions like the Chitauri truly posed no real threat.
Seeing Thor quiet down, Nick Fury nodded and said, "Anyway, let's leave this matter at that for now. In order not to alarm the one Joss mentioned... holy shit, Joss?!"
Just as Nick Fury was about to say something else, a figure suddenly flashed into existence right in the middle of the group, startling them so much that they nearly made a move.
"Uh... everyone's here today..." Joss paused for a moment before scratching his head in greeting.
Having returned from the arena, Joss looked exceptionally terrible, with blood seeping from the pores of his pale face, making him look as though he might kick the bucket at any second.
And his actual condition was not much better than his appearance. Having taken a direct hit from the Hulk head-on, even with layers of defense mitigating the damage, the shockwave that ultimately reached his body was still quite lethal.
However, his recovery ability was also quite impressive. Boosted by the Chaos Serum, his regenerative capacity had reached easily two to three times that of Steve. Although it could not compare to existences like Deadpool or Wolverine, such minor injuries could be completely healed within a day or two.
After briefly greeting Steve and the others, Joss found a spot to lie down and rest. His current injuries left him in an entirely drained state; practically any Hawkeye could kill him with a casual shot.
Nick Fury was already getting somewhat used to his erratic appearances and simply asked directly, "Since we were just discussing the Chitauri invasion, how is the situation on your end?"
"Ah... You mean the Hulk? He's still on a rampage. Once I estimate the time is about right, I'll go over and scavenge the body. But as for persuading him to join the Avengers afterward, you'd better handle that yourself. That's not my forte."
Though it was filled with his usual abundance of incomprehensible terms and highly disjointed speech, after a brief moment of thought, the people present roughly grasped what Joss was trying to express.
In short, their Avengers would soon have a new member joining them, and he was an overwhelmingly overpowered big shot.
These were things Nick Fury had been telling them all along, but even though everyone present was a superhero with an upright character, they still felt somewhat unconvinced about this.
As the saying goes, literature has no first place and martial arts have no second. Even primary schoolers in Summoner's Rift or Honor of Kings could argue to the heavens over whether Monkey King or Garen was superior.
Besides, those sitting here were true warriors; how could they easily accept the notion that a stranger they had never met was stronger than themselves?
It was just that people like Steve in the Avengers had an excellent temperament, so even if they felt something inside, they wouldn't voice it. Black Widow and Hawkeye had always clearly known their own positions, so they felt no particular resentment.
As for Stark, that pay-to-win player... best not to mention him.
However, there was still one person who felt somewhat dissatisfied with Nick Fury's hyping up of the Hulk.
Thor curled his lips in disdain, placed his hammer on the table, and stood up, saying, "Hmph, this just goes to show that you humans are still too weak. Meeting even a slightly powerful existence makes you think they are invincible. Let me tell you, back in Asgard..."
"Speaking of Asgard, it reminds me of the Heavenly Court, and speaking of the Heavenly Court... never mind, let's just go with dual blossoming, dual blossoming!" Joss smiled proudly, directly cutting in and interrupting the other's self-boasting.
Thor stared blankly at Joss, wondering why the other's smile carried such an inexplicably captivating charm, and why, despite speaking a bunch of nonsense, it somehow felt so profound?
After all, he was a rookie who had never interacted with Joss before. Even though Joss had previously observed him from afar in secret, this could truly be considered their first face-to-face meeting.
Yet, in this first round of confrontation, Joss's trolling power clearly prevailed.
"Forget it, since I still need to wait a while and I'm bored anyway, I'll take you over to have a look." Suddenly, Joss wore an evil yet charming smile, placed a hand on Thor's shoulder, and teleported away from Stark Tower.
...
...
...
Roughly fifteen seconds later, a beaming Joss returned to Stark Tower, bringing along Thor, who had been beaten down to the level of a little brother.
Originally, this was the regular version of the Green Hulk that Thor would only be able to defeat after undergoing an awakening. Now, provoked by a series of taunts from Joss, he had transformed directly into a Super Saiyan Green, capable of casually ragdolling and frictioning Thor all over the place.
Well, that was not a metaphor. That was the truest feeling in Joss's heart as he watched Thor get pinned to the wall like a dishrag by the other party, frictioning along the building for a full circle.
"Alright, whoever else wants to see the Hulk, get on board quickly. One at a time, round trip fifteen seconds, and I'll grant you a brand-new worldview." Joss casually tossed the collapsed Thor aside and smiled at the others once more.
It couldn't just be me taking a beating alone, right?
