Volume One, Chapter 15: Karmila
Page 1/3
Everything that happened since returning to this world forced Lin Yu to proceed cautiously and reexamine this realm. He couldn’t afford to suffer the same losses twice—that would be sheer folly. However, the current Carmilla no longer exuded any intent to kill him, yet he remained vigilant. Prolonging this standoff would yield no results. After some contemplation, Lin Yu decided he had to confirm the situation.
Tensing every muscle, he kept a constant eye on Carmilla’s movements as he cautiously approached her—not out of fear, but because he could not quite fathom what game she was playing. It was best to be thoroughly prepared. Carmilla, on the other hand, wore a dazed expression, staring blankly at Lin Yu as if she no longer recognized him.
The reason for her current state was ultimately linked to Lin Yu. When Carmilla was controlling Dagon earlier, it was her own consciousness at work, which Lin Yu had shattered with a single punch. That decisive blow struck her like a powerful force crashing into a human brain—causing a brief amnesia. Now, she had forgotten everything except her own identity, much like a child just awakening to awareness—pure and innocent, devoid of any murderous intent toward Lin Yu.
In Carmilla’s eyes, Lin Yu was a familiar stranger—he was the first person she saw, evoking a deep, unexplainable sense of familiarity. Thus, she showed no significant reaction to his approach. If Carmilla regained her memories, she would surely remark, “How could I not recognize you? We’ve been at each other’s throats relentlessly. I’ve never suffered such a humiliating lesson before.” As the saying goes: the deeper the hatred, the deeper the love.
Before losing her memory, Carmilla’s hatred for Lin Yu was profound; afterward, that ingrained hatred transformed into an inescapable familiarity. Just as Lin Yu was about to stand before her, Carmilla asked curiously, “Who are you? Why do you seem so familiar, yet I can’t remember you? And where is this place?”
Her tone was dazed yet fresh and clear, tinged with a faint trace of panic she tried to suppress. Lin Yu was taken aback. One moment, she wanted to pulverize him; the next, she was inquiring about his identity. He understood women could be fickle, but this was too sudden—such a stark contrast was almost unbelievable. Nonetheless, Lin Yu refrained from answering immediately. He wasn’t sure if she was pretending or genuinely confused; he felt wary.
Seeing Lin Yu standing silently, staring intently, Carmilla grew shy, covering her flushed face with her hands. In all her memories, she had never encountered such a handsome young man. Lin Yu was at a loss—this was the first time he had seen Carmilla like this. Today, his worldview was being rewritten again and again.
Through his careful observation, Lin Yu confirmed Carmilla’s behavior was genuine, heartfelt. But why had she suddenly lost her memory? It wasn’t possible that his blow had traumatized her this time; she had endured many such blows before without change. Something about his return had altered everything.
Helplessly shaking his head, Lin Yu softened his gaze and asked kindly, “This is Earth. Carmilla, do you really not remember me?”

Hearing Lin Yu’s warm and resonant voice, Carmilla felt a strange mix of familiarity, fondness, and a hint of dislike—odd feelings that she decided must be illusions. She forcibly suppressed her aversion toward him and steadied her emotions, though a rosy tint lingered on her cheeks.
“Yes,” she replied, “I woke up here but don’t remember who you are. You say this is Earth, and I was born on Earth too. But it’s not like the Earth I remember. The sky was blue, and these buildings weren’t here.”
That last remark left Lin Yu speechless. If he could, he’d tell her the sky was still blue—but the blackened, grim state was someone else’s doing. Still, he held his tongue. Comparing the former Carmilla to the current one, he secretly hoped she would never recall her past. Amnesia might be a blessing.
At that moment, a brilliant idea sparked in Lin Yu’s mind: self-reliance is the best strategy. This was an excellent opportunity to redefine their relationship. Clearing his throat, he recalled Earth’s tales of amnesia and quickly devised a plausible explanation.
“My name is Lin Yu—Lin Yu Ultraman! I’m your captain, and you, Carmilla, are a member of my security team. Do you remember any of this?”
Though certain she had amnesia, Lin Yu cautiously tested her reaction, wary of triggering a memory that might cause problems.
Carmilla pondered seriously but could recall nothing. Trying to remember only brought intense headaches. She groaned softly, “Ouch, it hurts! Why can’t I remember anything?”
Seeing her distress, Lin Yu comforted her gently, “It’s okay, Carmilla. Don’t force it. Calm down and don’t get upset.” Gradually, the pain subsided as she stopped trying to recall the past, but disappointment, confusion, and a sense of grievance welled up inside her.
Looking up with tear-filled eyes, she trembled and asked, “Why am I like this? Why did I lose my memory? Why does it hurt when I try to remember?” Unable to hold back, she threw herself into Lin Yu’s arms and wept loudly.
The scene shocked everyone watching the live broadcast on Earth. The planet’s would-be destroyer clinging to its savior’s embrace and crying? Such a melodramatic plot wouldn’t even be dared in a TV drama. Was this a dream, or a dream within a dream? Even if a dream, it was absurd—and that ruthless woman crying like a wronged little bride? What was going on?
“Is it my imagination? Am I dreaming? Based on my decades of experience, this must be a TV show! Guys, I just pinched myself and felt nothing—that means... wait, what does that mean again?” “You pinched yourself, idiot!” “I just want to know if we won or lost. I want to go home.”
It wasn’t only the viewers on Earth who were baffled; the Elite Victory Team’s base was equally confused. Everyone looked to Zero for answers. Zeta was already resting beside his good friend Trigger, so all eyes were on Zero, hoping he could explain what had happened.

Zero, equally perplexed, said, “Why are you all staring at me? I just got back from the battlefield. I don’t know what happened—when I left, those two were still mortal enemies! How did they end up hugging? I want to know too!”
His cluelessness only heightened everyone’s anxiety. The situation had spiraled beyond all expectations. What was going on with Lin Yu? The other side was a major villain bent on destroying Earth, yet Lin Yu was comforting her. Had he defected?
Unlikely, but how else to explain this? Lin Yu himself was clueless. Everyone was bewildered by his actions.
At that moment, Lin Yu continued to soothe Carmilla in a gentle, low voice. “Your amnesia is a side effect from the severe injuries you sustained while fighting monsters alongside me to protect Earth. Don’t worry, Carmilla—I believe you’ll recover. I’ll stay by your side until you regain your memories or we create new ones. Don’t push yourself to remember the past.”
Just then, Lin Yu received news from the GGF Special Monster Unit about a monster sighting. Upon seeing the photo, his eyes flickered with recognition. It was Rainbow Kagachi—the creature summoned by Professor Yokomine Banpyo from the Holy Stone Seven-Color Bracelet to punish humans damaging the environment.
“Let’s go,” Lin Yu said to Carmilla and the others. The women, previously bored on the sofa watching TV, brightened at his words.
Lin Yu nodded. “The Special Monster Unit is already mobilized. Let’s head over. It’s been dull for days; finally, something interesting.”
“Sounds good. Let’s go,” Chaoyang said cheerfully, joining Lin Yu. Ketsuna agreed, and Carmilla grabbed a can of cola, saying, “Let’s move.”
Lin Yu squinted slightly, a faint smile curving his lips. The story should now reach the Rainbow Kagachi arc. Thinking of an old acquaintance, he felt a stir of anticipation.
As Lin Yu headed toward Bituro City, at that moment—
Boom.
In downtown Bituro City, Genjin and Minami Anna piloted the Asgardron and had finally arrived. Kagachi, acting on Professor Banpyo’s orders, was specifically targeting humans. This time, many people in Bituro City had fallen victim to Kagachi.
“Damn it,” Genjin said, “Let’s go, Team Minami!”
“Just waiting for that, Captain!” Minami’s face was fierce with determination.
In the next instant, both piloted Asgardron to confront Kagachi.
The massive Asgardron moved like an earthquake. Kagachi immediately noticed its approach and roared defiantly, charging toward it without fear.
Below, Banteng and Megumi were already on-site, evacuating the panicked crowd. Seeing Asgardron about to clash with Kagachi, they clenched their fists.
“Go, Captain and Minami! Take that monster down! Asgardron’s been upgraded since the last fight, so give it everything you’ve got!”
As they spoke, Asgardron’s massive hands struck Kagachi fiercely, sparks flying violently through the void. The powerful blows forced Kagachi several steps back.
Inside the cockpit, Genjin and Minami’s eyes shone with excitement.
“Keep attacking!” Genjin ordered without hesitation.
“Got it!” Minami nodded and struck again.
However, this time wasn’t as smooth. After being pushed back, Kagachi used a burst of force to slam back into Asgardron.
This time, Asgardron was forced to retreat a few steps but quickly regained balance. This range was perfect for using Asgardron’s mounted weapons.
“Asgard Machine Gun!”
Minami snorted and activated the 105mm automatic grenade launchers on Asgardron’s forearms—secondary weapons meant to suppress the enemy.
A barrage of fire rained down on Kagachi. If the attack had hit a building, it would have exploded instantly. Yet, to Genjin and Minami’s disbelief, Kagachi deflected every grenade—literally knocking the projectiles away without taking any damage.
The battle was far from over.
