Chapter 1: Keep a Close Watch on Your Boyfriend
Binhai City, Huaxia.
Shengshi Manor, Building 3, Unit 2, Apartment 501.
“This is it.”
Qin Chuan double-checked the address on the yellowed slip of paper in his hand, confirming he had not made a mistake. With a touch of both anger and disdain, he muttered, “That old fossil said this girl was some wealthy lady? She doesn’t even live in a villa—since when did the standards for rich women get so low? Who’d believe you? That wretched old man is full of it.”
Glancing at the nine marriage agreements he held, Qin Chuan suddenly felt the urge to break off the engagement.
In truth, aside from assessing whether his fiancées were suitable, his main purpose for coming down the mountain was to find someone who could cure his Nine Suns Constitution.
Speaking of that, it was quite a mortifying matter. The ancient texts recorded: Only through joint cultivation with a woman possessing the Mystic Yin body—no, by mutual enlightenment—could the raging fire of the Nine Suns be quelled.
But in the vast sea of people, where could he find such a rare constitution? What if she turned out to be a woman whose looks rivaled that infamous socialite—how could he possibly force himself to do what must be done?
What a calamity!
“Maybe I should at least see what the first fiancée looks like before making any rash decisions?” Qin Chuan hesitated again. Although this apartment was no villa, it was a spacious unit in a prime location—certainly worth a fair sum.
If the woman was beautiful, perhaps there was room for negotiation.
For instance… perhaps they could start with a more intimate acquaintance.
Having made up his mind, Qin Chuan knocked lightly on the door.
But after a long while, still no one answered.
“Out for work this early?”
“Or maybe she didn’t come home last night?”
Qin Chuan leaned toward the latter. He’d heard stories from Widow Wang back in the mountains—urban women were said to be rather open-minded.
Not returning for the night? It wouldn’t be surprising if they spent the night at more than one place.
“Guess I’ll check out fiancée number two instead.” Qin Chuan sighed. Each of his nine masters had arranged a marriage for him. He’d hoped to take the “why choose? I’ll have them all” approach, but Huaxia’s marriage laws had promptly shattered that pleasant fantasy.
He turned to head downstairs, but nearly collided with someone coming the other way.
Before he could react, a parcel was shoved into his hands.
“You’re Miss Lin’s husband, right?” the courier said, his tone dripping with envy. “Handsome as they say—no wonder Miss Lin took a liking to you. However…”
“I’m not—” Qin Chuan began.
But the courier cut him off with a knowing look. “A man should never admit his shortcomings, but take it from someone with experience—if you’ve got issues down there, get them treated. Otherwise, if you ever find yourself wearing a green hat, you’ll regret it. That’s all I’ll say.”
With that, the courier hurried off before Qin Chuan could get a word in.
Qin Chuan was left dumbfounded. By the time he gathered his wits, the courier was long gone.
“Damn it, you’re the one who’s got problems—your whole family’s got problems!” Qin Chuan cursed, stomping his foot. In his agitation, the package slipped from his grasp and tumbled to the floor, revealing a tear in the outer wrapping.
He quickly picked it up, only for twelve bold characters to leap out at him: “Realistic texture, premium silicone, constant temperature control.”
This was clearly a certain… adult toy, intended for women.
“So this is what urban women get up to?” Qin Chuan’s lip twitched. Now he understood the courier’s earnest advice about seeking medical treatment and the warning about being cuckolded.
“This calls for a breakup!”
Qin Chuan made up his mind on the spot. He had always prided himself on being a pioneer—he would not allow a path he intended to conquer to have been trodden by another.
Just then, the sharp click of high heels echoed from the corridor.
Looking up, Qin Chuan saw a woman in a black office suit, head lowered as she searched her bag for keys, walking toward him.
He hurriedly hid the package behind his back.
The woman stopped abruptly, and when she looked up to see Qin Chuan, a wary glint flashed in her beautiful eyes.
“Who are you? What are you doing skulking around my door?” she demanded, her voice crisp and melodious.
“What a stunning woman,” Qin Chuan couldn’t help but marvel inwardly.
Her features were delicate, her figure statuesque, and her attire radiated an alluring charm that was difficult to resist. Qin Chuan had seen his share of beauties—even his Ninth Master was a peerless beauty—but he had to admit this woman ranked among the top three he’d ever encountered.
Especially that air of aloofness about her, which contrasted sharply with the natural charm in her peach blossom eyes. Two entirely different auras, yet perfectly blended in one person—truly a miracle of nature.
“Who are you, really? Say another word and I’m calling the police!” The woman stepped back, phone already in hand.
Qin Chuan put on his most charming smile. “Don’t get me wrong, miss, I’m not a bad guy.”
“Bad guys never say they’re bad,” she retorted coldly.
Qin Chuan opened his mouth but was left speechless. She had a point.
“You’re Lin Wanyu, right? I’m Qin Chuan. I came here mainly because—”
“So you’re Qin Chuan? My so-called fiancé?” Lin Wanyu cut him off, her tone turning even colder.
“This marriage arrangement is just wishful thinking on our elders’ part. I won’t agree to it, and you’d be wise not to pester me.”
With that, she lifted her chin, exposing a slender, alabaster neck—proud as a swan looking down on a toad.
Qin Chuan’s smile faded. “Miss Lin, you’ve got it wrong. I actually came to break off the engagement.”
“B-break off the engagement?”
Lin Wanyu’s icy demeanor nearly cracked. A flash of surprise lit her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure.
“He’s playing hard to get!” flashed through her mind.
She’d seen this kind of tactic before.
“Here’s the marriage contract—tear it up, burn it, do whatever you want. It has nothing to do with me anymore.” Qin Chuan tossed her an ancient-looking scroll and turned to leave.
Lin Wanyu watched his retreating figure, silently counting under her breath. When she reached three, Qin Chuan did indeed stop.
A faint smile played on her lips—just as she expected.
But before that smile could fully form, Qin Chuan strode back over.
“By the way, here’s your boyfriend.” He thrust the package into her arms, a playful smirk on his face.
“A little indulgence is fine, but too much is harmful.”
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving only a graceful back for Lin Wanyu to see.
She was left utterly bewildered.
But her quick mind soon realized she’d just been rejected—and not even subtly.
Wait… what did he mean by “boyfriend”?
Lin Wanyu looked down at the package in her hands.
When she saw the object peeking out from the torn wrapping, a flush instantly spread across her flawless face.
Recalling the look of disdain and amusement in Qin Chuan’s eyes, she wished she could sink into the floor.
But she’d never bought anything like this—how did it end up…?
Just then her phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID, Lin Wanyu quickly answered.
A coquettish, feminine voice soon sounded in her ear.
“So, sis, did you get my birthday present? Hehehe!”
