Jiang Yingying, Shen Xiaoqing, and Wade Griffin were sitting on the sofa watching television, but none of their minds were on the show; instead, their thoughts were on Qin Tian, who was concocting medicine in the other room.

With a creak, the door opened. All three immediately turned their heads to see Qin Tian emerge, holding a small jade bottle in his hand.

“Did you succeed?” Wade Griffin asked, a trace of delight in his voice.

“I did not let you down,” Qin Tian replied with a smile and a nod.

“This is… this is wonderful!” Wade Griffin rushed over and gave Qin Tian a huge hug.

“Thank you, Xiao Tian, thank you!” Wade Griffin repeated his gratitude, visibly moved.

“We’re friends—this is only right,” Qin Tian replied, clapping Wade Griffin on the shoulder with a smile.

“Friends! Yes, good friends!” Wade Griffin released him and gave his shoulder a hearty pat in return.

“Xiao Tian, how can I ever repay you?” Wade Griffin asked.

“There’s no need to talk of repayment between friends. Just cover the cost of the materials,” Qin Tian joked.

“No, that won’t do! Last time, Lord Kong helped us and refused any thanks. This time, I insist you accept something!”

“How about this: near your country’s North Sea, there’s an island. I’ll give it to you! You can go there for holidays; the environment is excellent,” Wade Griffin offered.

“A… an island?” Qin Tian’s eyes widened in disbelief.

Now he truly understood what it meant to be “wealthy beyond reason.” This was real wealth—a casual gift of an entire island!

“It’s settled, you must accept it. If not, we can’t be friends!” Wade Griffin insisted.

“Alright, I won’t refuse such kindness,” Qin Tian replied with a smile, still reeling at the thought of suddenly becoming the owner of an island. It all felt rather dreamlike.

“Qin Tian, let’s celebrate tonight. Go buy some groceries,” Jiang Yingying suddenly suggested.

“Great idea! I second that! Time to take full advantage of this new island owner!” Shen Xiaoqing chimed in, raising both hands in support.

Qin Tian’s cooking was indeed impressive; the two women had never forgotten the taste of his dishes.

“Alright! You all wait here at home, I’ll go buy the groceries,” Qin Tian agreed, happy to oblige their wishes.

With a smile, he walked toward the door, but the moment he opened it, a flying knife shot straight at his right chest.

Qin Tian’s eyes sharpened. If he dodged, the blade would strike Jiang Yingying or Shen Xiaoqing standing behind him.

He caught sight of a metal box on the wall near the door—used for storing the family’s regular milk delivery. The Jiang family had subscribed to that milk for over a decade; the price was fair and had barely risen in all that time.

Grabbing the metal box, Qin Tian yanked hard. It tore away from the wall, bricks and all. He then shielded his chest with it.

With a clang, the knife embedded itself in the box but did not pierce through.

Qin Tian casually tossed the box aside, called into the house to tell the others to lock the door and stay put, then dashed across the road into the bushes.

Judging by the trajectory, the knife had been thrown from those very bushes.

He sprinted across the street and dove into the shrubbery, noticing many freshly broken branches—clear evidence that the assassin had been lying in wait for him there.

But who could possibly want him dead? Was it not him, but perhaps Jiang Yingying, Shen Xiaoqing, or even Wade Griffin?

Qin Tian headed straight for the security office. He was well acquainted with the staff there. When they heard someone had tried to kill him, they were all shocked and immediately pulled up the surveillance footage.

Unfortunately, the cameras had been tampered with; from midnight until now, only static showed on the screens.

“Should we call in the Comprehensive Management Bureau?” the security chief asked.

“No need, thank you, Uncle Li. I’ll handle this myself,” Qin Tian declined politely.

After leaving the security office, however, he still gave Lin Jian a call—at the very least, he should let him know, in case he had a way to catch the assassin.

“Hello, Qin Tian! It’s been a while since you called. Good news—the giant wolf has been caught!” Lin Jian sounded in good spirits, laughing as he chatted.

“Oh? You caught it? That’s great,” Qin Tian replied.

“So, what’s up?” Lin Jian asked.

“Well, someone tried to kill me,” Qin Tian said.

“What? Someone tried to murder you? Did you see who it was?” Lin Jian was astonished. Attempted murder was a serious crime!

“I didn’t see—the cameras were all sabotaged. Clearly, this was premeditated,” Qin Tian explained.

“Have you offended anyone lately? Any suspects?” Lin Jian pressed.

“If you want a list, there’s Huang Qinhu from the Bodhi Society, Deng Jiachen from Fulai Media, Jiang Zhengye from the Imperial Group, and both Tang Yiliu and his father from the Tangtang Group. I’ve managed to offend them all,” Qin Tian said.

Lin Jian fell silent on the other end, unable to stop himself from cursing inwardly. Qin Tian had managed to cross all four of Wu City’s top groups? No wonder someone had sent an assassin after him.

“Qin Tian, you’re something else. Why not come hide out with me for a bit? Offending all four families… I really don’t know what to say,” Lin Jian sighed.

“No, Captain Lin, it’s probably not any of those four. They wouldn’t dare make a move against me just yet,” Qin Tian replied.

“Why not?” Lin Jian was puzzled.

“Because I have a guest staying with me that they’re wary of,” Qin Tian explained briefly.

“Then you have no suspects? Wait for me at the Jiang house—I’ll bring a team over and see if we can find anything,” Lin Jian said.

“Alright, I’ll be here,” Qin Tian agreed, hanging up.

Afterward, he drove to the market to buy groceries.

Was he supposed to cower indoors just because an assassin was after him? Impossible. Absolutely impossible. Qin Tian had never backed down from anyone. Besides, if the assassin were truly formidable, he wouldn’t have resorted to hiding and launching a sneak attack, fleeing at the first failed attempt.

“Where have you been? Are you hurt? Why are you back so late?” As soon as Qin Tian returned, the three gathered around him anxiously.

“I went to buy groceries,” Qin Tian said, holding up his shopping bag.

The others rolled their eyes. He’d just survived an assassination attempt, and he still dared to go out shopping? How unshakeable was this man’s composure?

“Come on, everyone inside. I’ll make you something delicious,” Qin Tian said, herding them into the house and nudging the door shut with his foot.

But at that very moment, the car parked outside the door exploded with a thunderous bang.
