Chapter 98: You’re Quite a Talent Yourself!
After leaving Qingcheng International Building, Qin Chuan’s steps were a little unsteady, yet his mood was exceptionally cheerful. Liu Qingcheng’s confession of everything she had been holding back, followed by that tender, intoxicating closeness, had left Qin Chuan feeling as though he could fly. If Liu Qingcheng had not been in such a special condition these past few days, Qin Chuan would probably have finally crossed the last line today.
Still, that was precisely why Qin Chuan had time to give Liu Qingcheng a bit of “training.” Because of his peculiar constitution, if they were to join recklessly, it would cause her body severe damage.
So Qin Chuan taught Liu Qingcheng a set of breathing and regulating exercises. Once her body had laid a certain foundation, then receiving the grace of rain and dew would no longer be such a concern.
Of course, dual cultivation with an ordinary woman did nothing to improve Qin Chuan’s special constitution; to some extent, it would even serve to hasten the eruption of the Nine Sun qi. Every time he thought of that, Qin Chuan felt deeply frustrated.
“Ah, in the end, only Sister Lin is truly suitable for dual cultivation!”
Qin Chuan let out a long sigh. But when he thought of the scene of Lin Wanyu storming off in anger not long ago, he knew all too well that the chances of repairing their relationship were slim. He could only use the ancient saying about a blessing in disguise to bolster his spirits.
“Actually, Miss Lan is not bad either. Especially since Old Lan is fully trying to match us up. But after this, I’m afraid it won’t be easy to stay with the Lan family anymore.”
Qin Chuan rubbed his chin, feeling a little regretful.
Beep, beep, beep!
Just then, a burst of urgent honking suddenly rang out.
Qin Chuan turned his head and saw a blue Porsche 911 racing straight toward him, swerving like a dragon.
“Driving this fast on city roads—just how much did you drink?”
Qin Chuan hurriedly dodged to the roadside. A moment later, the blue Porsche came to an abrupt halt where he had just been standing, leaving two black skid marks clearly visible on the pavement.
“I say, do you even know how to drive? You almost hit someone. Don’t you know that?”
Qin Chuan walked up to the window and said in a professional tone.
A moment later, the window slowly lowered. In the front passenger seat, a middle-aged man wearing black sunglasses pulled a wad of bills from his pocket and tossed it to Qin Chuan.
“This is compensation. You can get lost now!”
“Damn it!”
Qin Chuan raised his brows. He was just about to fire back a few words when, from the corner of his eye, he saw the woman in the driver’s seat quickly make a hand signal: thumb pressed into the palm, the other four fingers clenched tight.
“Was that a cry for help?”
When Qin Chuan tried to confirm it again, the window had already begun to rise. Because the sports car’s windows were covered with one-way privacy film, it was no longer possible to see what was happening inside.
So Qin Chuan quickly flashed to the front of the car just as it was starting up again, spreading both arms in a blocking gesture.
As a man with a sense of justice, Qin Chuan could not allow this kind of thing to happen. If he had not seen it, so be it. But now that it was right before his eyes, he could not stand by and do nothing.
Fine, Qin Chuan admitted that a large part of the reason he had stepped in was that the fleeting glimpse of the woman in the driver’s seat had been stunning. After all, heroically rescuing a beauty was something that could stir the blood in any age, especially when the next scene might very well be the classic reward of a life pledged in return.
“You don’t want to live, is that it?”
The window lowered again, and the middle-aged man in sunglasses asked coldly.
Qin Chuan shook the wad of bills in his hand and said indignantly, “You nearly ran me over just now, and you not only refuse to apologize, you actually try to pay me to get lost. That’s an insult to my dignity. I want an honest bow and an apology. Otherwise, nobody is leaving here today.”
A flash of viciousness passed through the sunglasses-wearing man’s face. He turned to glance at the woman in the driver’s seat, as though making some kind of decision, then let out a cold laugh and slowly got out of the car. He bowed to Qin Chuan at a full ninety degrees.
“I’m sorry!”
His tone was flat, as if he were a robot stripped of feeling. In a sinister voice, he said, “Now you can...”
He did not even finish the last word before his voice was cut off, because he suddenly realized Qin Chuan had somehow already moved to the passenger seat.
“Now I can!”
Qin Chuan fastened his seat belt and said to the woman in the driver’s seat, “Beauty, drive!”
He had thought the hostage rescue was successful, but then Qin Chuan suddenly noticed the young woman force out a smile that looked slightly stiff, yet she made no further move.
“My young lady doesn’t want to leave. Didn’t you notice that? But since you chose to stick your nose into this mess despite having a death wish, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
The middle-aged man in sunglasses slowly opened the rear door and sat in the back seat. Only then did Qin Chuan notice that he was holding something resembling a remote control, and he immediately had a rough idea of what was going on.
“Brother, let’s talk this through. There’s no need to play with a remote bomb! I only came because I’d watched too many movies and wanted to play the hero rescuing the beauty. I never planned to stake my life on it.”
As Qin Chuan spoke, he reached for the door, intending to get out. From the corner of his eye, he saw a flicker of disappointment and contempt pass through the eyes of the woman in the driver’s seat.
“Now you know to regret it?”
The man in sunglasses sneered. “Too late. Since you’ve already discovered the problem here, there’s no way I can let you leave alive. Young lady, drive!”
“Wei Dapeng, I’ve always treated you well. Why are you doing this to me? How much did that Master Zhuo pay you? I’ll pay double—no, ten times. As long as you let me go, how about it?”
The woman’s voice carried that soft, warm Jiangnan lilt, gentle and beautiful, the kind that left the listener feeling as if a spring breeze had brushed past.
The middle-aged man in sunglasses said heavily, “This isn’t about money anymore. My wife, children, and parents are all in Master Zhuo’s hands. Otherwise, I would never have taken such a desperate risk. Young lady, I’m sorry for this. Afterward, if you want to kill me or cut me apart, I won’t say a single word in complaint.”
From their conversation, Qin Chuan roughly understood the situation. This middle-aged man in sunglasses, Wei Dapeng, should be the beauty’s personal bodyguard.
And Wei Dapeng’s family had been taken hostage by Master Zhuo, who was using them to threaten him into bringing the beauty to a specified location. Most likely, there was some deal worth hundreds of millions waiting there.
During their exchange, Qin Chuan had also secretly observed the woman. Although she wore oversized sunglasses that covered half her face, they could not hide her breathtaking beauty.
Her figure was excellent too, with two long, fair legs that were straight and elegant. Most striking of all was the faint, unusual fragrance about her. Qin Chuan was certain it did not come from perfume. It must have been the legendary body scent that was said to be rare indeed.
Perhaps sensing his gaze, the beautiful woman turned her head and said, “You’re about to lose your life, and still you have the mind to sneak glances at women? You really are a talent.”
“Precisely because I’m about to lose my life, I can look without restraint. Beauty, you may not know this, but I’m still a virgin. So since I’m about to die, could you grant me the chance to be a real man before I go?”
Qin Chuan said pitifully.
At his words, three black lines seemed to appear on Tan Shuying’s forehead. She stared at Qin Chuan in utter disbelief, unable to imagine how there could be such an odd creature in this world.
Wei Dapeng was a little stunned as well. He had seen thick-skinned people before, but this was the first time he had ever seen someone as shameless as Qin Chuan. There had once been a popular internet phrase, “seeing something for the first time after living long enough,” and now Wei Dapeng deeply understood the essence of those words.
“You’re not saying anything. I’ll take that as agreement?”
“Beauty, you’re really too kind-hearted. What a good person!”
“Good people are sure to be rewarded. Let me thank you in advance.”
As he spoke, Qin Chuan began taking off his clothes.
