Chapter 134: Shameless and Unprincipled
Jiang Huai’s mind went blank. He couldn't tell if he was losing his mind or if Yang Fan was.
A dignified eldest daughter of the Zhong family, kept by you?
"What? Don't believe it? I told her the other day that I was keeping her, and she agreed. Doesn't that mean she’s being kept by me?"
Jiang Huai couldn't help but curl his lip. Just as they were speaking, several more cars pulled up in the distance. Young Master Han—the son of CEO Han—stepped out. He was chatting with other wealthy heirs, but when he caught sight of Yang Fan, his expression shifted abruptly.
"Come here!" Yang Fan called out to Han Fei.
Jiang Huai was shocked once again. He actually watched as Han Fei walked over, followed by a large group of people.
Han Fei maintained his composure, though his face looked grim. The people behind him walked with an arrogant, swaggering gait, clearly assuming that Han Fei was coming over to see which idiot was foolish enough to shout for him.
"Who the hell are you? Our Brother Han Fei is—"
Before the man could finish, Han Fei backhanded him across the face.
"This is my older brother! Yang Fan!" Han Fei scolded directly. As the only son of the Han family, he was well aware of his family’s standing. "My brother calls for me, so what? How dare you insult him?" With that, he slapped him again.
The scions of these minor families dared not resist; they relied on the Han family and were merely Han Fei's lackeys.
"Apologize to my brother immediately!" Han Fei kicked him as well. His hand was already hurting from the slaps—a testament to his pampered upbringing and lack of exercise.
"Brother Yang Fan, I’m sorry!"
Yang Fan waved his hand dismissively. Jiang Huai was already stunned. It wasn’t that he didn’t know Young Master Han; his status was different. In the Jiang family, they were busy fighting over the succession, whereas Han Fei was the sole heir to the Han family.
"Come, Han Fei, this is Jiang Huai. He’s my brother. You guys probably know each other, right?"
"We do. Jiang Huai and I are old acquaintances," Han Fei said with a smile.
"Do you know what’s going on between Jiang Bo and the Zhong family?" Yang Fan asked.
"I know a little. I don't know who Jiang Bo hooked up with, but someone acted as a middleman. As for exactly who, even our Han family doesn't know."
"Alright, come here." Yang Fan beckoned. Han Fei hurried closer, and they whispered for a moment before Han Fei nodded.
"How is your old man doing these days?"
"My dad is doing fine. Reading books, drinking tea," Han Fei replied.
"That’s good. Tell him to hurry up and hand over the power to you. Unless... does your dad have an illegitimate child out there, which is why he’s dragging his feet?"
The others didn't dare to breathe. Jiang Huai remained silent, stunned by how daring Yang Fan was.
Han Fei felt bitter. If anyone else had said that, he would have slapped them, but with Yang Fan, it was a different story.
"My dad rarely goes to the club lately. It’s basically me running things there now."
"That’s right," Yang Fan chuckled.
"By the way, Brother Yang, Miss Ai Xiaomei and Xu Zihan are staying at my place, too."
"I know. Also, stop putting her dog in such high-end rooms," Yang Fan said. Over a hundred thousand a night, with massages and hot springs for the dog—the dog was becoming almost as lazy as Ai Xiaomei.
"That’s fine. Since Miss Xiaomei and the others came, I had to make sure they were well taken care of!"
"Alright, you guys go on in."
Han Fei nodded, exchanged a brief word with Jiang Huai, and led his group inside.
"Jiang Bo wants to marry her? In your dreams!" Yang Fan muttered with a cold sneer.
"Brother Yang, is Han Fei really your brother?" Jiang Huai couldn't help but ask. He hadn't realized Yang Fan possessed such potential. For Han Fei to remain unfazed after Yang Fan spoke about his father like that—how deep must that friendship be?
"Actually, his father, CEO Han, and I are brothers. Haven't you heard? We served in the military together, spent time in jail together, forged iron together, and chased girls together. That’s what a real brother is. We share common hobbies!"
Jiang Huai felt a wave of relief, as if he had taken a sedative. Even if Jiang Bo formed an alliance with the Zhong family, they weren't without backup. Furthermore, the Han family and the Song family were allies; unlike their own internal strife, those two stood together. This meant that with the Han family's support, the Song family would firmly stand on their side. Two families against one—he finally felt a sense of confidence.
"We need to exploit the psychology of wanting what one cannot have to divert his attention, and then..."
"Openly repair the plank road while secretly crossing the Chencang!" Jiang Huai added.
"A fitting metaphor!"
"But Yang Fan, this auction is a sure thing for Jiang Bo. Plus, the Zhong family has let it be known that whoever wins the Zhong family heirloom gets to marry their daughter."
"It seems the Zhong family is truly desperate to come up with such an idea. Their attitude, coupled with Zhong Ziyan’s fearful demeanor, proves the family is being coerced. And the question of who Jiang Bo is leaning on—that is worth pondering," Yang Fan analyzed.
"Then how do we sabotage the auction? Jiang Bo is certain to win," Jiang Huai insisted.
"That’s easy. Your so-called 'sure thing' is based on a gentleman’s agreement. If we really play dirty, the auction won't even be able to start. This is a trick I learned at the Redemption Auction: once a person loses all sense of shame, they are invincible!"
The guests had mostly arrived, and Yang Fan and Jiang Huai headed back.
Seeing that Yang Fan was in a better mood, Huo Xinxue asked, "What, found a way to save your little lover so quickly?"
"I only have one lover, and that's you!" Yang Fan replied happily.
"Have you given up on all pretense?" Huo Xinxue laughed as well.
At the auction venue, which held over a hundred people in the Zhong family’s main plaza, Yang Fan didn't want to stand out, at least not for the moment. He found a mascot bear costume and slipped it on.
As he passed by Jiang Bo, he activated his Memory Pupil...
"Memory Pupil activation failed. Please try again later!"
"What the..." Yang Fan felt like collapsing. Could you be any less reliable? He immediately summoned the customer service sprite.
"Master, since the countdown for the shedding of the Tianli Pill membrane has reached one month, the low-level superpower of the Memory Pupil will be permanently absorbed by the pill. Therefore, you cannot activate it for the time being."
"Fine, go back to sleep then!" Yang Fan grumbled.
If he couldn't activate it, he couldn't activate it.
"Rental..."
"Sorry, the Rental Warehouse activation failed. Resources are currently being integrated!"
"I..." Yang Fan felt like collapsing again. He hadn't checked the warehouse for just one morning, and such a disaster had occurred. The bigger problem was that he didn't have many items left—only some inlay techniques remained, and all his low-level powers had vanished. How was he supposed to live like this?
Yang Fan checked his status with his mind in an instant. He would wait a month if he had to. At worst, he would keep a low profile for a month and avoid drawing too much attention!
At three in the afternoon, the auction officially began.
