Chapter Ninety-Four: I Want to See the Concert
After seeing Nangong Xiao'e off, Qin Tian returned to the hospital.
By then, Jiang Yingying and Shen Xiaoqing were still hiding in the security room, too afraid to come out.
"Where did Qin Tian go? He couldn’t have been killed, could he?" Shen Xiaoqing said with worry.
"Spare me your rotten mouth. What nonsense are you spouting? How could Qin Tian be killed?" Jiang Yingying quickly covered Shen Xiaoqing’s mouth.
"Worried about him now? And you still say you don’t like him?" Shen Xiaoqing pried her hand away and said with a teasing smile.
"Who’s worried about him?" Jiang Yingying drew her hand back a little flustered. Yes, how could she possibly be worried about Qin Tian? And yet, her heart did seem strangely unsettled...
Knock, knock, knock.
A sound came from the glass outside. Shen Xiaoqing looked up and saw Qin Tian.
Jiang Yingying also looked up. A flash of surprise crossed her eyes, but it was quickly hidden away again.
"What about the assassin?" Shen Xiaoqing opened the door and asked.
"It’s taken care of. Let’s go home," Qin Tian said.
"Were they sent by Tang Yiliu and the others? Are they still not willing to give up?" Jiang Yingying asked.
"I’m not sure. I’ll look into it when I have time," Qin Tian said, shaking his head.
After that, the three of them took a taxi home, while the explosion in the parking lot became another headache for Qin Tian.
Fortunately, he knew Lin Jian, who helped him out. The incident was not made public as an attempted assassination, but covered up as a case of spontaneous vehicle combustion.
"You brat, just how many people have you offended? So many of them want you dead. If you ask me, you might as well go over to Commander Guo Chao’s side," Lin Jian advised.
Guo Chao was the commander of the White Tiger Squad. Qin Tian had once crossed paths with him during the operation to lure out the giant wolf, and the White Tiger Squad under his command was a very special unit.
"Too many lice to worry about the bites. Those who want to harm me are all going to end up disappointed," Qin Tian replied.
"Then suit yourself, kid. From the looks of it, you’re the sort who likes stirring things up. Doesn’t seem like you’re destined to die young," Lin Jian teased.
"What kind of thing is that to say?" Qin Tian said, somewhat displeased.
"Hahaha." Lin Jian’s hearty laughter came through the phone.
"By the way, Chief Lin, send me your bank account number," Qin Tian said.
"My account number? What do you need my account number for?" Lin Jian asked, puzzled.
"Your bank account number," Qin Tian said.
"My bank account number? Why do you want it?" Lin Jian frowned slightly.
"I want to transfer some money to you," Qin Tian said.
"What are you up to?" Lin Jian immediately grew wary. For people like them, such things were most taboo.
"It’s like this. Wasn’t there a sniper who died in the line of duty while protecting the Jiang family? I was thinking of doing something for his family, and I’d like to ask you to pass it along," Qin Tian said.
Last time, Lin Jian had deployed men to guard the area around the Jiang family, and one of the snipers had been killed on the rooftop.
"You mean Jiang Nianrui?" Lin Jian fell silent after speaking. He had been one of the finest men in their team.
Jiang Nianrui had devoted nearly twenty years to their unit and earned distinction many times over. He was a good soldier, and also a good husband and father.
"So his name was Jiang Nianrui?" Qin Tian asked.
"Yes. If you’re sincere about it, you should visit his home in person. We’ve already given the proper compensation, but with a widow and child left behind, I doubt it’s enough. You can deliver the money to them yourself," Lin Jian said.
"All right. Send me the address. I’ll go tomorrow," Qin Tian said with a nod. Jiang Nianrui had died because of him. Though it had been his duty, Qin Tian still could not feel at ease.
Lin Jian soon sent him the address, and early the next morning Qin Tian set out for Jiang Nianrui’s home.
Jiang Yingying and Shen Xiaoqing insisted on coming along, and Qin Tian had no choice but to let them join him.
"Qin Tian, I’ve prepared two hundred thousand. Is that enough? Should I get more?" Jiang Yingying asked worriedly.
She had only learned about Jiang Nianrui from Qin Tian. She felt the same as Qin Tian did and believed she ought to show her respect as well.
"Two hundred thousand is already very good. After all, you’re still in school, and this came from your own careful saving. It’s enough to show your sincerity," Qin Tian said.
At the same time, he felt a little envious. Truly, children from wealthy families were different. Just from pocket money and frugality, they could save tens of thousands.
And then look at ordinary people—after working for more than ten years, they might still not have savings of that much.
"I still think it’s too little. Doesn’t his child need to go to school? Doesn’t the family have expenses? Even a regular university would cost at least over a hundred thousand for four years!" Jiang Yingying said.
"Don’t worry. I’ve prepared some too," Qin Tian said.
The several hundred million in compensation he had previously obtained from Tang Yiliu and the others had all been handed over to Nangong Xiao'e to run her assassin organization.
Later, though, they had tricked several million out of that assassin Rat, and Nangong Xiao'e had returned a few million to Qin Tian as well, worried that he might be short on money.
So Qin Tian was not lacking in funds at the moment. He intended to take out one million.
That amount should be enough for the mother and daughter to live for quite a while—perhaps even until his daughter got married.
They arrived at an old residential complex. After winding through several turns, they finally reached the destination.
When Qin Tian and the others got out of the car, a woman came up to them, a vegetable basket hanging from her arm, as though she had just returned from the market.
"Are you Qin Tian?" the woman asked as she stepped forward.
"You must be Sister-in-law Ma Wen?" Qin Tian asked.
"Yes. Chief Lin told me yesterday that you’d be coming, so I’ve been waiting here for you. I just happened to finish buying vegetables, so I’ll make something good for you at noon," Ma Wen said with a smile.
"Sister-in-law, that’s too much trouble," Qin Tian said, a little embarrassed.
"Not at all, not at all. We don’t usually have many friends, and even fewer as young as you. Come on, come on, all of you, come inside," Ma Wen said, smiling as she waved the three of them in.
Once inside, a girl of thirteen or fourteen ran out and took the vegetable basket from Ma Wen’s hand.
"Yan Yan, greet your brother and sisters," Ma Wen said.
"Hello, brother. Hello, sisters," Jiang Qiaoyan said in a very obedient voice.
"What a pretty little sister," Shen Xiaoqing said, immediately walking over in a friendly manner.
For women, once they hit it off, it was all too easy to become close.
After that, Qin Tian actively helped Ma Wen put away the groceries she had bought, while Jiang Yingying, Shen Xiaoqing, and Jiang Qiaoyan chatted in the living room about something or other.
"You want to go to Mi Xue’s concert?" Shen Xiaoqing had not expected Jiang Qiaoyan to be a fan of Mi Xue as well.
"Yes, I really like Mi Xue," Jiang Qiaoyan nodded.
"So do I. I wanted to go with Yingying, but her tickets were already snatched up! Mi Xue really is amazing—she can act and sing, and she’s good at everything!" Shen Xiaoqing said with undisguised admiration.
"You want to go to Mi Xue’s concert? I’ve got a way!" Qin Tian poked his head out from the kitchen and said.
"Get out of here. The tickets are all sold out. What way could you possibly have?" Jiang Yingying told Qin Tian to keep to the side.
"I really do have a way. I know Mi Xue," Qin Tian said.
"You? Know Mi Xue? Then I must be Mi Xue’s little sister!" Jiang Yingying said disdainfully.
Qin Tian scratched his head. He really did know Mi Xue. And as for Jiang Yingying wanting to be Mi Xue’s little sister, it might not be impossible either. Given the favor he had done Mi Xue, asking her to recognize a little sister would hardly be too much, would it?
