Chapter Ninety-Six: Are You Done Yet?
“Are you really Mi Xue?” Jiang Yingying still found it hard to believe, so she asked again.
“Mhm! I am Mi Xue,” came the answer once more.
“The famous star Mi Xue?” Jiang Yingying still did not quite believe it. What if there happened to be two people with the same name?
“Yes! May I ask who you are? What do you need from me?” Mi Xue replied for the third time.
It was only because Mi Xue had such a good temper. If it had been anyone else, Jiang Yingying would have been scolded senseless after being asked the same thing over and over.
“Do you know Qin Tian?” Jiang Yingying asked.
“Qin Tian? I do know him. What about it?” Mi Xue paused in surprise. The other person was not Qin Tian, yet she was asking about something related to him.
Jiang Yingying drew a deep breath and finally became one hundred percent certain that Qin Tian and Mi Xue really did know each other.
“Qin Tian called you just now because he had something to ask. He’s not in a convenient position to talk at the moment, so I’ll have him call you back later,” Jiang Yingying said.
On the other end, Mi Xue suddenly felt a rush of quiet delight. So it really was Qin Tian’s number, and he simply could not answer it himself, so someone else had picked up for him.
“Then please tell Qin Tian that I’m about to start filming. I probably won’t be free to take a call until after midnight,” Mi Xue said.
“Ten o’clock should be fine. I’ll have a break then,” Mi Xue added after thinking it over.
“Half an hour from now works too. We’ll be heading out on location then, and there’ll be a stretch of free time on the road,” Mi Xue said for the third time.
Jiang Yingying on the other end of the line was somewhat at a loss. With a girl’s special sensitivity, she felt that Mi Xue seemed almost uncommonly eager.
Could there be something between Qin Tian and Mi Xue?
Mi Xue herself also realized that something about her reaction was off. Why did she seem to be so eager to see Qin Tian, so eager to hear his voice?
She told herself: It must be because she wanted to thank Qin Tian again for helping her last time. Yes, that had to be it.
“Mi Xue, we’re starting. Are you ready?” the director’s urging voice came from the phone.
“I’m ready. I’ll be there right away. Please help me tell Qin Tian, thank you,” Mi Xue answered, then spoke again to Jiang Yingying on the phone.
“I’ll pass it on to him,” Jiang Yingying said with a nod. Then the call ended.
No sooner had Jiang Yingying put down Qin Tian’s phone than Shen Xiaoqing rushed over and gave her a bear hug.
“What are you doing! I can’t breathe!” Jiang Yingying cried in pain.
Shen Xiaoqing quickly let go, her excitement overflowing. “Qin Tian really does know Mi Xue! We can go to Mi Xue’s concert now!”
Jiang Yingying looked at Shen Xiaoqing’s chest, then down at her own, her expression turning a little odd. They were born only a few days apart, so why was the difference between them so enormous?
She had nearly been smothered to death by Shen Xiaoqing just now.
“Yingying, why is your face so red? Are you sick?” Qin Tian happened to walk out at that moment. Seeing Jiang Yingying’s flushed face, he asked in confusion.
“It’s nothing. Mi Xue called you back.”
Jiang Yingying did not bother explaining in detail. She certainly could not say that she had been unable to breathe because of Shen Xiaoqing’s chest. How awkward would that be?
“Oh? That little girl has some conscience after all, knowing to call back,” Qin Tian said with satisfaction.
“She said you could call her back in half an hour, or at ten tonight, or even after midnight,” Jiang Yingying said.
“All right. I’ll call her back in a bit and ask for four tickets,” Qin Tian said with a nod.
“Qin Tian, did something happen between you and Mi Xue?” Jiang Yingying asked.
“Mm. I suppose I’m her benefactor,” Qin Tian said without hiding anything. He recounted the whole story to Jiang Yingying and Shen Xiaoqing, though he left out a great deal of the process.
“You really are lucky. Even that could turn into a case of a hero saving a beauty for you,” Jiang Yingying said with a pout.
“What do you mean, lucky? That’s called strength, all right?” Qin Tian retorted irritably.
“Qin Tian, um... could you help me with something?” Shen Xiaoqing asked, leaning forward.
“What is it? If I can help, I definitely will,” Qin Tian said.
“I want a signed photo of Mi Xue,” Shen Xiaoqing said.
“That? No problem.” Qin Tian agreed without the slightest hesitation. It was only a signed photo; Mi Xue surely would not be stingy about that.
“I also want one of Mi Xue’s outfits, the limited-edition T-shirt sold at that concert in the capital, the one with Mi Xue’s cartoon image printed on it,” Shen Xiaoqing said.
“No problem, though we’ll have to see whether Mi Xue still has one,” Qin Tian replied with a nod. That should not be a big issue either.
“And! And! I also want that custom rose-pink lipstick Mi Xue made for herself. Ask her whether there are any left,” Shen Xiaoqing said, raising a hand.
“All right, I’ll ask for you,” Qin Tian said again with a nod.
“I also want...” Shen Xiaoqing was about to say more, but Jiang Yingying cut her off.
“Xiaoqing, that’s enough. Qin Tian may have helped Mi Xue before, but even that favor will run out someday. Don’t make things difficult for him,” Jiang Yingying said sternly.
“Oh.” Shen Xiaoqing answered faintly and lowered her head.
“Tell me, what else do you want?” After a while, when Jiang Yingying was not paying attention, Qin Tian leaned close to Shen Xiaoqing’s ear and asked softly.
Shen Xiaoqing immediately widened her eyes and said excitedly, “I also want to take a photo with Mi Xue!”
“And if possible, I want to become good friends with her!”
“And also, if we could have a meal together, that would be even better.”
She poured out all her wishes in one breath. Qin Tian smiled and nodded to each one.
At midnight, Mi Xue sat in a business van, both hands wrapped around her phone, lost in thought. She had expected Qin Tian to call her after half an hour, but he never did.
So she assumed he must have been busy. Yet when ten o’clock came, she still had not received his call.
Now it was already midnight, the last agreed time. Why still no call from Qin Tian?
Just then, her phone rang. Mi Xue’s face lit up at once. Qin Tian was finally calling her!
“Hello!” she answered eagerly.
“Xiao Xue, for your concert the day after tomorrow, your father and I have decided to come see you. We’re calling to let you know in advance. Just do your own work and don’t worry about us. We’ll arrange everything ourselves,” said her mother’s voice from the other end.
“Oh, okay. Then please be careful on the road,” Mi Xue replied.
After the call ended, Mi Xue felt a little disappointed. So it wasn’t Qin Tian...
Half an hour later, Mi Xue was already home. After saying goodbye to Song Fangmei, she entered the villa alone.
Just as she stepped through the gate and was about to open the door, her phone rang again.
“Hello.” Mi Xue was somewhat tired, so she did not even look at the caller ID.
“Big star, are you done?”
The voice from the other end instantly brought Mi Xue fully awake. Then joy surged in her heart.
It was Qin Tian.
