Chapter 105: Remember This First
“My patience is limited. I’ll count to ten.” Qin Tian pressed the wooden stick against the assassin’s Adam’s apple.
The assassin swallowed hard, the contact of the stick against his throat sending a shiver through his entire body.
No one is without fear of death. Even an assassin like him was terrified of dying.
“I can’t tell you the name of the organization behind me. If I did, it wouldn’t just be death I’d face—it would be a pain far worse than death,” the assassin said.
“Why does your organization want to capture you? I don’t know. Maybe my master knows something,” he added.
“Your master? Who is your master?” Qin Tian asked sternly.
“My master is called Earth Dog—that’s his codename within the organization. We don’t know his real name,” the assassin replied.
“Earth Dog?” Qin Tian frowned. What kind of ridiculous name was that? It was impossible to investigate.
“Where is your base of operations?” Qin Tian asked.
“What do you plan to do? Going there would be suicide!” The assassin’s eyes widened in alarm, fearing Qin Tian might act recklessly.
His greater worry was that if Qin Tian forced him to lead the way to the organization, he himself would be implicated—and death would then be a luxury.
“Is your organization powerful?” Qin Tian feigned disdain.
“We have strongholds in thirty-six provinces and seventy-two cities. This city, Wu City, is under my master Earth Dog’s jurisdiction,” the assassin said.
Qin Tian inhaled sharply. An influence spanning thirty-six provinces and seventy-two cities? That was indeed formidable.
“Anything else to tell me?” Qin Tian stared him down.
“N-no, that’s all I know.” The assassin trembled.
Qin Tian glanced at him once more, then pulled out his phone and called Nangong Xiaoe.
“Hey, Brother Qin Lei, how come you have time to call me?” came Nangong Xiaoe’s surprised yet suspicious voice.
“I caught another assassin. He should be from the same group as the one you took away. I managed to get some information. What about you?” Qin Tian asked directly.
“Another assassin? Were you hurt?” Nangong Xiaoe was startled.
“No, his skill was average. I captured him,” Qin Tian said.
Hearing that, Nangong Xiaoe relaxed.
“I didn’t get much useful info, but their organization seems terrifying. Their pawns are spread across thirty-six provinces and seventy-two cities!” Nangong Xiaoe said incredulously.
“You know about it too? Mine confessed the same,” Qin Tian said, surprised that this assassin wasn’t exaggerating.
“That must be true then. Such a massive organization targeting you, Brother Qin Lei, is bad news,” Nangong Xiaoe worried.
“Send someone to pick up this assassin. Take him back and interrogate him further. Maybe we can get more useful information.”
“With two people, we can cross-check the information for authenticity,” Qin Tian added.
“Okay, where are you now?” Nangong Xiaoe asked.
“I’m at the Jiang residence,” Qin Tian answered.
“Alright, wait half an hour. My people will be there,” Nangong Xiaoe said.
“So fast?” Qin Tian was surprised. Nangong Xiaoe would have to fly here from elsewhere, right? Half an hour? Were they riding a rocket?
Nangong Xiaoe explained that after returning, she sent some people to Wu City to gather intel, so her team was already there.
Qin Tian finally understood.
Half an hour later, three extravagantly dressed women arrived at the Jiang residence. They had clearly put on heavy makeup deliberately.
“Are you Mr. Qin?” the leader asked.
“Yes, he’s inside,” Qin Tian nodded.
The three women’s gaze passed over Qin Tian, landing on the tightly bound assassin.
“We’ll take him now,” the leader nodded, and the three entered to take the assassin away.
“Wow, who are those three Goth beauties?”
After the trio left with the assassin, Shen Xiaoqing and Jiang Yingying returned inside. Shen Xiaoqing stared at the three women, mouth agape.
“Want to dye your hair like that too?” Qin Tian laughed.
“No way. I prefer long, straight black hair,” Shen Xiaoqing said, running her fingers through her hair with a playful snort.
“Where’s Uncle Jiang?” Qin Tian smiled and looked at Jiang Yingying.
“My dad’s at the company. He won’t be home tonight,” Jiang Yingying said. Earlier, she had called Jiang Tianxiang to make sure he was safe.
“Alright, I’ll tidy up here. You two go get some rest,” Qin Tian nodded.
“You should sleep early too. Tomorrow noon, take us to the airport. The day after, we report for school,” Jiang Yingying said.
Qin Tian paused. Report for school? It dawned on him that the new semester was about to start; the summer vacation was almost over.
“Okay, no problem,” Qin Tian nodded, though a strange emotion stirred within him.
After Jiang Yingying and Shen Xiaoqing left, would he just be stuck serving Jiang Tianxiang? That sounded boring.
Half an hour later, Qin Tian cleaned up the shattered glass and debris, looking at the hole in the second-floor wall—the result of his chair smash—which would need repair.
After cleaning, he didn’t head upstairs to bed immediately but sat on the doorstep steps, lost in thought.
So much had happened recently, mainly on his own side, and he was struggling to make sense of it.
Why did this vast, mysterious organization relentlessly hunt him? They seemed intent on capturing him, yet he had never offended them.
His strength was not impressive; he needed to grow stronger. Qin Tian recalled Wang Shoucheng’s words.
Wang Shoucheng had once tried to introduce an unparalleled master as his mentor, which Qin Tian politely declined. Now, he hesitated—perhaps it was worth a visit.
He suspected more danger awaited him, making power enhancement all the more crucial.
And Old Man Kong—who had appeared briefly today to save him, then left hastily after saying “See you at Mount Tai in six months”—definitely harbored a great secret.
Qin Tian strongly suspected that the wave of assassins pursuing him was tied to that old man.
He stroked his chin, then raised his fist, examining it closely.
Whoever wanted to mess with Qin Tian first had to weigh themselves carefully!
“Sending assassin after assassin to kill me? Hmph! I, Qin Tian, have taken note of this debt! When I find out who you are, I will make you pay it all back!”
His eyes narrowed, gazing into the night sky with deep resolve.
