Chapter 109: It’s Burning
“Class, for our first lesson today, we will have a comprehensive test. Fundamental theoretical knowledge often serves as the cornerstone for practical application. I don’t want you to forget everything once you leave school.”
“Class monitor, come up and distribute the test papers.”
On the podium, a female teacher with a perfectly proportioned figure held up the papers.
“Classmate? Take a test paper,” Jia Mingyan said, frowning slightly as she noticed Qin Tian staring blankly.
Qin Tian was momentarily stunned, so much so that when the class monitor handed him the test paper, he didn’t even reach out to take it.
What kind of joke was this? A test on the very first day of school?
He hadn’t attended school since finishing middle school!
Just as Qin Tian snapped back to reality and was about to take the paper, Jia Mingyan slapped it down on his desk.
Qin Tian knew it was his own fault for zoning out and didn’t argue.
“Yingying, I bet some people are going to come in last on this test,” Shen Xiaoqing said with a teasing smile, looking at the stunned Qin Tian and then at Jiang Yingying.
“Do you think grades matter to him? He’s just here to accompany us to school,” Jiang Yingying shook her head.
Having spent quite some time with Qin Tian, Jiang Yingying understood his character well.
“That’s true. He works at your house, and your dad even gave him such a high salary. So whether he scores well or not doesn’t really matter.”
“Besides, your dad might even end up promoting him as a son-in-law,” Shen Xiaoqing joked.
“What nonsense are you talking about!” Jiang Yingying shot a glare at Shen Xiaoqing.
Shen Xiaoqing stuck out her tongue and then bent down to start the test.
Qin Tian rested his elbows on the desk, cupping his face with both hands, staring blankly at the test paper.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t answer; it was more like the questions felt somewhat insulting.
He was puzzled—could it be because he had read “One Book”? Otherwise, how could the questions at such a prestigious school seem so simple?
Qin Tian probably shouldn’t be able to solve these problems, but he could, which was quite extraordinary.
He picked up a pen and twirled it in his hand, wondering whether he should finish the entire test. Would that be too spectacular?
“Focus on your answers,” the female teacher, noticing Qin Tian’s playful pen-twirling, frowned slightly and walked over to tap on his desk, speaking quietly.
Qin Tian glanced at her and nodded.
It should be fine to reveal a bit of his true ability, right?
After some hesitation, Qin Tian picked up the pen and started writing rapidly.
“Look at that new student—he’s writing so fast!”
“Yeah, his pen’s practically smoking!”
“No way, it’s actually smoking!”
The female teacher sniffed, thinking something might be burning.
She looked around and soon spotted a faint blue smoke rising from Qin Tian’s desk.
“Classmate! What are you doing?” she immediately exclaimed.
Qin Tian blew hard on the desk, surprised himself. He hadn’t expected that in his excitement and speed, the friction would actually cause smoke!
Taking a test and setting the paper on fire? Who would believe that?
“This test paper’s too easy to burn. No, too easy to write. I got too excited and wrote too fast, so it just... it just...” Qin Tian didn’t even know how to explain. It was awkward—too awkward. He probably was the first person in history to do this.
The teacher gave him a sharp look and then handed him a new test paper.
“Hmm?” She examined the paper she took back, frowning slightly. The answers not burned away looked near perfect!
Patiently, she reviewed the entire paper. Her gaze toward Qin Tian was now tinged with astonishment.
Some of these questions were actually beyond the syllabus, including material meant for this semester. She had deliberately designed the test to challenge the students’ knowledge.
She had assumed no one could answer, but this damaged test paper in her hand proved otherwise.
“Qin Tian? You’re the new student, right?”
Shen Man looked at the name in the top-left information box, unfamiliar with it. She was sure she hadn’t taught anyone by that name last semester.
“This new student is interesting,” Shen Man said, placing the damaged paper on the desk and scrutinizing Qin Tian carefully.
Unaware, Qin Tian had already piqued Shen Man’s interest.
“Have you heard? Someone in Business Class One set their test paper on fire while answering questions!”
“No way! Set the paper on fire? What kind of writing speed is that?”
“Speed of a lifetime of bachelorhood!”
“Hahaha!”
Qin Tian, Jiang Yingying, and Shen Xiaoqing walked through the campus, occasionally overhearing whispers about themselves.
“Qin Tian, you’ve become famous,” Shen Xiaoqing laughed uncontrollably beside him.
Qin Tian felt extremely embarrassed. He never expected to become known for something like this.
“This test was hard. Some questions were definitely beyond the syllabus,” Jiang Yingying said.
“Yeah, I couldn’t solve them. I doubt even sixty points is easy,” Shen Xiaoqing said, her laughter fading.
“Really? It’s quite simple,” Qin Tian said unconsciously.
Because to him, these questions truly were easy.
After all, he could do anything.
“Simple?” Jiang Yingying gave him a disdainful look. As if!
Shen Man’s grading speed was impressive; the results were announced the very next day.
“You actually got a perfect score?” Class monitor Jia Mingyan frowned as she handed out the tests, staring at the three bright red digits.
“What? A perfect score?”
“How is that possible? Some questions were beyond the syllabus! Could he be a repeat student?”
“Maybe he cheated?”
Some students were shocked by Jia Mingyan’s words.
The difficulty of this test was obvious. How could anyone get a perfect score?
“Teacher Shen, I demand to see the surveillance footage. I don’t believe he could have gotten a perfect score!” Jia Mingyan said, implying she suspected Qin Tian of cheating.
“I also think it’s impossible to score full marks. This is too strange.”
“Didn’t he almost set the test paper on fire before? He must have used some trick!”
“Teacher Shen, check the cameras! We can’t let the school’s atmosphere be spoiled by someone like this!”
Whenever someone achieves perfection, jealousies arise. Many can’t help but feel resentment toward the achiever simply because they themselves did not succeed.
Shen Man frowned. Cheating? Impossible. She had watched Qin Tian almost the entire time. His hands never left the desk, and his eyes never strayed from his paper. After finishing, he simply rested his head on the desk. How could he have cheated?
“Is being outstanding a crime these days?” Qin Tian was speechless. What kind of classmates were these?
“Jia Mingyan, sit down. Qin Tian did not cheat. Trust your classmates.”
Qin Tian had expected they might review the surveillance footage. Though he wasn’t afraid—he hadn’t cheated—he still felt a bit uneasy.
He hadn’t imagined Shen Man would choose to trust him, which moved him slightly.
He was strong inside and thick-skinned enough to withstand accusations, but for someone with thinner skin, being doubted like this could be devastating once verified on camera.
